Gerald Albright - Sax For Stax (2008)     Artist: Gerald Albright
     Album: Sax For Stax
     Year of Release: 2008
     Genre: Smooth Jazz
     Label: Peak Records
     Quality, Bitrate: mp3, VBR (196-224 kbit/s)
     Total Time: 51:13
     Total Size: 75.64 MB

The smooth jazz saxophone Maestro Gerald Albright is no one-dimensional purveyor of musical wallpaper. He has recorded seven successful solo albums for Atlantic when he wasn't busy, assisting an impressive roster of popular R&B artists. Some of the more well-known artists Albright assisted during his career include Anita Baker, Regina Belle, Quincy Jones, the Temptations, Phil Collins, Whitney Houston, and many, many more.
His new release, his eleventh solo offering, "Sax For Stax" (Peak Records) is a refreshing, well balanced authentic and innovative work which sets out to unashamedly do what it says on the packet!
Always a consistent upholder of authenticity and purity, he turns the soul music of Stax Records, the legendary Memphis-based recording company that defined southern soul from the late `50s to the mid '70s, into a soul stirring stew of down home rhythm and blues chased with a mason jar of jazz.

Who is Maysa? Her sound eludes categorization, as her deep, subtle voice encompasses acid jazz, contemporary jazz, and R&B. While she cites Chaka Khan as one of her greatest influences, her sound recalls Anita Baker, Toni Braxton, and newer artists Floetry and Jill Scott. In other words, like these performers, Maysa bridges the gap between classic soul and contemporary R&B, crooning over slightly heavier beats. Her seventh solo album, Metamorphosis, continues this trend, which will please Incognito fans as well as contemporary jazz and soul fanciers.

David Sanborn - Here & Gone     Artist: David Sanborn
    Album: Here & Gone
    Release 2008
    Format, bitrate: MP3@VBR kbps
    Size: 51,8 MB

With the release of his searingly soulful, rootsy, and groovy Decca debut, Here & Gone, David Sanborn became the second legendary saxman — after Maceo Parker and Roots and Grooves — to pay homage to the ever-popular genius of Ray Charles in 2008. Sanborn approaches the Genius in a novel and not completely obvious way, however, tapping into the fruitful symbiotic relationship between Ray Charles and one of Sanborn's chief sax influences, Hank Crawford — who was Charles' saxman and arranger in the '50s and early '60s.

Everything But The Girl - EDEN
Artist: Everything But The Girl
Album: Eden
Label: Blanco y Negro
Year: May, 1984
Genre: Alternative dance
Performer: Tracey Thorn i Ben Watt
Format, bitrate: mp3@256Kbps
Time:
Size: 64 Mb

The debut effort by multi-instrumentalist Ben Watt and vocalist and songwriter Tracey Thorn took the alterna-pop world by surprise in 1985. And rightfully so. Watt's lush chamber orchestra jazzscapes, full of Brazilian bossa nova structures and airy horn charts, combined with Thorn's throaty alto singing her generation's version of the torch song, was a sure attraction for fans of sophisticated pop and vocal jazz. Featuring 12 tracks, the album has deeply influenced popular song structures since that time; this is evidenced in the work of more R&B-oriented acts such as Swing Out Sister and Tuck and Patti. The set opens with "Each and Everyone," a slow samba-flavored pop song. The song comes from the broken side of love, with Thorn entreating from the heart: "You try to show me heaven but then close the door...Being kind is just a way to keep me under your thumb/And I can cry because that's something we've always done." A trumpet fills her lines and makes them glide above Watt's Latin mix. Elsewhere, the folk bossa of "Fascination" is all the architecture Thorn needs to sink deep into her protagonist's brokenness. Guitars chime and stagger one another, slipping and sliding just above the bassline, and vanish into thin air. On "I Must Confess," a riff similar to "The Girl From Ipanema" locates Thorn next to a deep ringing upright bass and Watt's glissando guitar, played Charlie Byrd-style, before Nigel Nash punctures Thorn's vocal with a velvety tenor solo. Once again, the notion of loss, memory, and the resolve of the left half of a relationship to go on, carrying regret but not remorse, is absolutely breathtaking. Thorn continually meditated on broken relationships here, and that extended tome, which echoes through every song on the record, seems to have resonated with everyone who heard it. The set closes with Watt's vocal on "Soft Touch," a folksy pop song, illustrated with guitars, a fretless bass, and piano, that sounds like something from Supertramp in their better moments -- and no, that's not a bad thing. His voice -- while not nearly as dramatic as Thorn's -- is wonderfully expressive, and his lyrics extend the feeling of Eden to its final whisper. This set proved itself to be an auspicious debut that testified to the beginning of a long and creatively rewarding partnership that has endured. ~ Thom Jurek, All Music Guide

One of the kitschier installments in the Ultra Lounge series, Vol. 7, Crime Scene features a cross-section of easy-listening and movie music culled primarily from Capitol Records' vaults. All of the songs are allegedly "about" or inspired by detective and crime novels and films, so you have movie and television themes (Nelson Riddle's "The Untouchables," "Peter Gunn Suite" as performed by Ray Anthony), as well as songs whose titles imply a crime connection of some sort. It's an enjoyable collection, but it's too incoherent and campy to really be consistently entertaining. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

REPOST! (with new links from aelia)Hoagland Howard "Hoagy" Carmichael - an American composer, pianist, singer, actor, and bandleader, was born today, November 22, 1899 !

Сегодня день рождения автора "Stardust"

This CD is an excellent introduction, or re-introduction to Hoagy Carmichael. Carmichael purists claim his own recordings as definitive, pointing to Ole Buttermilk Sky (a 1998 compilation of his Decca recordings) or Hoagy Sings Carmichael (with his 1956 sessions for Pacific Jazz). But this compilation takes a standard approach: a variety of artists captured over the years. The emphasis here is on Capitol and sings. But Capitol shows off its star vocal talent in this compilation of Carmichael tunes which range from 1945 to 1962. Every cut, from the orchestral arrangements of Billy May and Nelson Riddle to the simpler jazz trios and quintets focus on the singer, so that the musicality of Carmichael's songs shines through the human voice, and oh, brother, what voices Capitol has in its stables: Crosby. Armstrong. Torme. Peggy Lee. Kay Starr. Keely Smith. Dinah Shore. And featured here not once, but twice, Nat King Cole.

A rare out of print CTI Benson session that showcases the guitarist stretching out on a phenomenal guitar-scat-vocal solo on an early, grittier version of “Moody’s Mood”. " Melodia Español " is an austere flamenco style duet with Benson and Hubert Laws both in rare form trading licks over a standard Spanish style chord pattern. This was ripped from a “Good” (not Excellent) condition clean vinyl LP with some minimal compression/processing, please excuse a little surface noise.

The music of WALL-E was mainly composed by Thomas Newman and released as a soundtrack album on June 24, 2008. Orchestration is credited to Carl Johnson, JAC Redford, Thomas Pasatieri, and Gary K. Thomas. Newman previously scored Finding Nemo; almost all other Pixar films have been scored by Newman's cousin Randy.[1] The soundtrack features excerpts from "Put On Your Sunday Clothes" and "It Only Takes a Moment" (both sung by Michael Crawford) from the Hello, Dolly! soundtrack, and "La Vie en Rose" by Louis Armstrong, as well as an original composition, "Down to Earth" by Peter Gabriel. Also featured are the classical pieces "Also Sprach Zarathustra" and "The Blue Danube", famous by their appearance on the soundtrack of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Neither Etta James's cover of the song, At Last, nor Aquarela do Brasil which were used in the theatrical trailers appeared on the final cut of the film or the soundtrack.

This group, of which the name is borrowed from the bratsche (viola), the rhythmic instrument of the orchestras Tziganes, was born from the meeting of daN Gharibian (bouzouki, guitar and song) and of Bruno Girard (violin and song). They will be joined soon by Pierre Jacquet with the double low and François Castiello with the accordion and the song. The family will be finally joined together with the arrival of Nano Peylet to the clarinet and the song. Their music is an invitation with the voyage: gypsy music with the repertory of Central Europe, while passing by more traditional songs and klezmer. Full with the world is a disc where some stowawaies of reputation embarked: Olivia Ruiz, Charles Aznavour, Balbino Medellin, Upright on Zinc, the street Ketanou, Sanseverino, Tété, Khaled, Nery, Nourith, Lhasa and Juliette.
”We are not real traditional musicians, says François Castiello. In France, we do not have a very rich musical tradition, whereas, in the Romanian, Yugoslav, Bulgarian musics, there are extraordinary things to discover on expression and play. We are in front of these musics like white European musicians in front of the jazz in the Fifties.”

Bratsch goes on a journey in gestures, atmospheres, dream. Their music and their spectacle evoke the myth : the myth of the remote village, the myth of the migration, the myth of the “gypsyland”. ”We are dreamers. We have much fantasies on music. People over there do not play it like that. I played recently with a brass band of Macedonia : they play during repetitions, before the repetitions, after the repetitions, they will play in the street as they wake up, they still play after the concert. They do not play only for the people sitting in front of the stage.”

Format Mp3 320 Kbps / Flac
Size: 170 mb; 370 mb

Marilyn Monroe's limited musical output gets recycled once again, but Anthology pads out the usual tunes with some tempting extras and packages it all nicely. The first disc uses most of the material from Stardust's earlier The Very Best of Marilyn Monroe and contains songs directly from her films, although the liner notes don't bother to point out what's from what. Recording dates, conductors, and orchestras are credited, however, showing more effort on the part of Stardust than most Monroe compilers. The performances are fun to hear; the singer coos her way through her signature "Diamond's Are a Girl's Best Friend," and a couple of duets with Jane Russell are sexy camp of the highest order. The sound quality varies from good to fair and only gets disruptive when tape folds and scratches occasionally turn up. Where Anthology stands apart is the second disc's collection of commercials and radio appearances. Full half-hour episodes of Monroe guesting on The Edgar Bergen Show and The Martin and Lewis Show are included. Monroe's famous sultry performance at John F. Kennedy's 1962 Madison Square Garden birthday party and a commercial where she sings the praises of "pretty undies" fill out the disc. There are more than 140 minutes of Monroe here plus a large booklet of photographs and essays. With its hard-shell case, Anthology is, at the very least, the Monroe compilation that makes the best-looking gift. ~ David Jeffries, All Music Guide

Show tunes provide a multitude of reference material for the traditional vintage jazz or pop vocalist. Then there are movie themes, more familiar to the general public, especially when they were seen later on a modern invention called television. This collection of 26 tracks features a modicum of jazz, but mainly pop tunes from the Golden Era of the '30s, '40s, and '50s. Big bands are prevalent as the backup groups, sometimes including strings, with little instrumental improvisation and stock charts. Among the most famous of these sentimental journey songs are "Moon River" from Billy May, "Call Me Irresponsible" by Bobby Darin, Dean Martin's slightly sloshed "Baby, It's Cold Outside," and Nat King Cole's "Mona Lisa" and his actually hip "The Continental" (two of three Cole selections heard here). There are also two from Johnny Mandel with the Pied Pipers, "Swinging on a Star" by Freddie Slack, a young Nancy Wilson with "Secret Love," and soupier group vocal pieces from the King Sisters, Bob Hope with the Clark Sisters, the Lettermen, the Four Freshmen, and Ray Anthony with the Belvederes on the apropos "Thanks for the Memory." Overall, this is nothing more than a trip down that lane of reminiscence for those familiar with the old dirt road path to grandma's, now a superhighway. ~ Michael G. Nastos, AMG
