1962: Ahmad Jamal - Macanudo |

Artist: Ahmad Jamal Album: Macanudo Label: Argo Year: 1962, release: 1963 Quality:mp3\320 (LP-rip) Size: 60.6 ÌÁ This was recorded after Israel Crosby and Vernel Fournier went over to George Shearing, and it’s clear that Ahmad Jamal had no problems regrouping after Israel’s and Vernel’s defection. I think it was a brilliant move by Ahmad to have his next recording be a huge departure from the trio format. This hearkens back to Ahmad Jamal’s days with the George Hudson Orchestra in the 1940s. He’d always claimed to be uncomfortable in an orchestra setting, but this totally disproves that—or he just got better at playing with orchestras. It seems as though he made a more conscious effort to play in the time, to be more appropriate with the heavy Latin theme of the date, and he’s just so supremely bad! It’s obscure, but one of my favorite Ahmad Jamal recordings. ~ Eric Reed, jazz.com |

2000: Vic Damone - Live In Concert |

Artist: Vic Damone Album: Live In Concert Label:Classic World CWP-1341 Year: 2000 Format, bitrate:MP3 320 Time: 33:51 Size: 73 MB In the late '40s and the first half of the '50s, Vic Damone had a great deal of success with an approach that owed a great deal to Frank Sinatra, although his delivery was stiffer, and his material about as middle of the road as you could get with a tape measure. Backed by the orchestras of Glenn Osser, George Siravo, George Bassman, Richard Heyman, and others, Damone had well over a dozen big hits for Mercury. AR man Mitch Miller helped Vic select some of the material, which sometimes delved into Italian folk songs or novelties. Damone left Mercury in the mid-'50s for Columbia, where he continued working with Miller and scored one of his biggest hits, "On the Street Where You Live" (from the My Fair Lady musical), in 1956. Only one Top 20 hit awaited him in the future, but by the late '50s Damone was making the transition to the adult-oriented album market. Recording throughout the ensuing decades with limited success, Damone could always rely on a healthy living on the club-and-casino circuit, where his principal constituency now resides. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide

1961: James Brown & The Famous Flames - The Amazing |

Artists: James Brown & The Famous Flames Album: The Amazing Label: Classic Soul Year: 1961 Formate, bitrate: mp3, 256 kb/s Size: 64.9 MB (with artwork) The Famous Flames was an R&B vocal group founded by Bobby Byrd that performed with James Brown during the early years of his career. On recordings such as "Please, Please, Please", "Try Me", "Think"," I Don't Mind ","Shout and Shimmy", "Bewildered", "Oh Baby, Don't You Weep", and "I'll Go Crazy" the group's smooth backing harmonies contrasted strikingly with Brown's own rough, impassioned delivery, and their synchronized dance steps were a prominent visual feature of his live shows. The Famous Flames performed with Brown on many of his live and studio albums, including his breakthrough Live at the Apollo, and appeared with him in the films The T.A.M.I. Show and Ski Party. They also made appearances on television programs including American Bandstand and Where the Action Is (both hosted by Dick Clark) and two episodes of The Ed Sullivan Show.
The Famous Flames appeared less and less often on record as Brown's music moved beyond his original R&B style and into the realm of funk; he later claimed that "[t]hey were a good stage act, but they couldn't really sing all that good."[1] Their last studio recording with Brown was "Maybe the Last Time", the B-side of his 1964 proto-funk single "Out of Sight". They continued to appear with him on stage until 1968. After briefly leaving him in the late 60s, Byrd continued with Brown in a supporting vocal role into the 70s and beyond. ~ Wikipedia |

1998: Ahmad Jamal - With the Assai Quartet |

Artist: Ahmad Jamal Album: With the Assai Quartet Label: Roesch Year: ; release: 1998 Genre: Piano Jazz Format, bitrate: Time: 41:43 Size: 97,2 Mb This is a remarkable album. It's unlike anything else in Jamal's discography. There are three different performances here. On the first five tracks Jamal's trio performs original compositions with a string quartet called The Assai Quartet, the next four are solo piano improvisations recorded in Jamal's living room, and the final piece is a ballad by producer David Mills with piano and violin. The exuberance of the players is a pleasure to behold, and the music is genuine and unforced. A real joy. |

1963: Joe Pass - Catch Me! |

Artist: Joe Pass Album: Catch Me! Year: 1963 Label: Pacific Jazz Quality: mp3;224kbs Total Time: 00:45:04 Total Size: 72mb AMG Rating: Nice, mellow, and very groovy! Joe Pass plays here with the piano and organ of Clare Fischer, who's always one of our favorites a player who manages to turn any session into something more than it appears at face value thanks to a strong sense of craft and cleverness! Clare's touch here is a bit gentler than on some of his later sides but it's a very welcome one nonetheless and provides a perfect setting for Joe's lean lines on guitar strung out with a near-perfect tone, and backed by either Albert Stinson or Ralph Pena on bass, and Colin Bailey or Larry Bunker on drums. Titles include "Catch Me", "Walkin Up", "No Cover No Minimum", "Summertime", and "Just Friends". © 1996-2010, Dusty Groove America, Inc. |

1989: Les McCann / Stanley Turrentine / Blue Mitchell - Les McCann Ltd. In New York |

Artist: Les McCann/ Stanley Turrentine/ Blue Mitchel Album: Les McCann Ltd. In New York Label: Pacific Jazz/Capitol Year: 1960-1961 Release: 1989 Format, bitrate: mp3, 320kb/s Size: 122MB AMG rating: A thoroughly satisfying live date. The good-time pianist forgets singing on this Village Gate outing, and the band just cooks. Silky saxman Stanley Turrentine and trumpeter Blue Mitchell play as one on some cool McCann originals. It's almost inconceivable that the sextet had only one rehearsal. ~ Mark Allan, All Music Guide |
