1969: Cannonball Adderley Quintet - Paris Jazz Concert |

Artist: Cannonball Adderley Album: Paris Jazz Concert Label: Malaco Year: 1969 Format: MP3@320 kbit/s Time: 1.00:41 Size: 130 MB REPOST with new link from Mr.jobs99 При обсуждении парижского концерта Кеноннболла Эддерли знатоки джаза упомянули о концерте 1969 года. The Cannonball Adderley Quintet was in good form during this 1969 concert in Paris. They start off with keyboardist Joe Zawinul's hard bop "Rumplestiltskin," which is inexplicably still comically mislabeled "Rufus Still Skinned" as it was on its original release in Europe. "La Manha de Carnaval," the widely recognized theme from the film Black Orpheus, features the potent blend of the leader's alto sax with brother Nat Adderley's cornet. "Work Song" remained one of the quintet's most requested numbers, and this driving gospel flavored version is a highlight of this release. "Experience in E - The Allegro Movement" is a somewhat meandering piece; it was also performed prior to this concert by the quintet with the Toronto Symphony; this William Fischer work is based on a composition by Zawinul. "The Blooz," credited jointly to Zawinul and Nat Adderley, is a throwaway blues with a forgettable vocal by Adderley. "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy," another staple of the quintet, is used to close the concert. Bassist Victor Gaskin and drummer Roy McCurdy round out the group. ~ Ken Dryden, All Music Guide |

Artist: Maria Muldaur Album: Yes We Can! Release Date: 2008 Label: Telarc Genre: Electric Blues Format: Ape (image) Size: 150(2)+135Mb AMG rating Певица и гитаристка (фолк, блюз, кантри, джаз) Мария Малдор (Maria Muldaur) с альбомом «Yes We Can». Official site, фото в галерее - 1, 2. Прослушать композицию «John Brown» с этого альбома. There are a number of arguments to be made for and against Maria Muldaur's 2008 antiwar statement Yes We Can! on Telarc (before actually listening to it; remember, we live in a cynical culture). The "perceived" negatives all relate to the intent of the recording and who it's supposed to reach (no doubt an expression of the same set of beliefs rooted in Muldaur's 1960s music), and the fact that it's loaded with guests (in all fairness, these star-studded affairs seldom work). On Yes We Can!, her guests include Muldaur's old friends (Joan Baez, Bonnie Raitt, Phoebe Snow, Jane Fonda, and Holly Near) and influences (Odetta) and new pals (writers/spiritual gurus Anne Lamott and Marianne Williamson, and Indian spiritual teacher Amma)... 1974: Mary Lou Williams - Zoning |

Artist - Mary Lou Williams Album - Zoning Label - Smithsonian Folkways Year - 1974 Quality - MP3@320 kbps Size - 113 mb Total time - 51:23 AMG rating Mary Lou Williams emerged in the early '70s after a long period in which she worked in the Catholic church to resume her always stimulating career as a jazz pianist. On this CD reissue, one of her finest recordings of her later years has been brought back and augmented by two previously unissued performances. Williams performs in duos and trios with bassist Bob Cranshaw and drummer Mickey Roker, uses Zita Carno on second piano during a couple of the more avant-garde pieces, and also performs some trios with bassist Milton Suggs and Tony Waters on congas. Rather than sounding like a veteran of the 1920s, Mary Lou Williams sounds 40 years younger, shows the influence of McCoy Tyner, and hints at free jazz in spots. An often surprising set of modern jazz. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |

2009: Bobby Broom - Plays For Monk |

Artist: Bobby Broom Album: Bobby Broom - Plays For Monk Label: Origin Records Release: 2009-06-16 Format, bitrate: mp3 320 Kbps Time: 56:37 Size:78,9 МБ How to play the compositions of Thelonious Monk is always a slightly awkward question, even -- maybe especially -- for those musicians who love and admire him the most. His apparently awkward piano style was so much a part of his strangely convoluted and rhythmically challenging compositions that to play his music in what seems like a faithful and respectful style is to run the risk of sounding like a parodic imitator. Guitarist Bobby Broom is at less of a disadvantage than his piano-playing colleagues in this regard, because of the distance automatically granted him by his instrument. He makes sly reference to this fact on the cover of this delightful album, which is designed to mimic the cover art of Monk's classic album Monk's Music -- except instead of Monk himself sitting in the little red wagon, it's Broom's guitar. That allusiveness and gentle wit are everywhere present in his arrangements, and his playing as well: particularly in the elegant, almost offhandedly precise way he dances through "Work," one of Monk's knottiest compositions, and on his proud and stately rendition of "Ruby, My Dear," which is one of Monk's sweetest and loveliest. "Ask Me Now" starts off sounding just a bit awkward but then quickly falls into place; Broom's take on "Evidence" is one of the most powerful on the album, a tense and rigid head followed by a resolutely swinging solo. Bassist Dennis Carroll and drummer Kobie Watkins give Broom both the support and the space he needs to create a warm and wonderful tribute to one of America's finest composers.~ Rick Anderson, All Music Guide |

Artist: Abbey Lincoln Album: Naturally Label: New Edition Records Year: 1973; release: 2006 Format, bitrate: mp3 320 Kbps Time: 36:57 Size: 82 Mb Few singers have the emotional depth and versatility of Abbey Lincoln. With a voice capable of evoking both the joys and pains of life, she's carved a niche as a singer, songwriter and storyteller for over 40 years. As a living jazz legend, she still strives for new creative self-expression while interpreting a substance of feelings without being overly sentimental. This recording was made in Aoyama Victor Studio in Tokyo on June 23, 1973. It features Dave Liebman (saxes & flute), Hiromasa Suzuki (piano), Kunimitsu Inaba (bass), Al Foster (drums), and James Mtume (congas on tracks 1 & 5). ~ Editorial Review ( amazon.com) |

Enrico Pieranunzi - Les Amants |

Artist: Enrico Pieranunzi Album: Les Amants Label: Egea Release: 2004 Style: Post-Bop Format mp3, bitrate:320 kb/s Time: 52:10 Size: 129 Mb (full covers) Bubu's Rating: After having released seven recordings for the Italian EGEA label in settings ranging from solo to trio, when pianist Enrico Pieranunzi was asked what he'd like to do next, he immediately replied, "a CD with piano, sax, bass and—a string quartet." Given the green light, Pieranunzi put together a series of pieces that seamlessly combine the rich culture of the string quartet with the improvisational verve of a jazz chamber trio. The result, Les Amants , successfully marries these two traditions in a way that is respectful to both, balancing them perfectly in a combination that is dramatic without being melodramatic, sweet without being syrupy, and completely accessible without losing a certain sense of exploration. - John Kelman at AllAboutJazz.com |

Enrico Pieranunzi, Mark Johnson & Joey Baron - Ballads |

Artist: Enrico Pieranunzi, Mark Johnson & Joey Baron Album: Ballads Label: C.A.M. Jazz Year: 2004 Release: 2006 Style: Post-Bop Format mp3, bitrate: 320 kb/s Time: 1:00:58 Size: 142 Mb (covers) AMG Rating: The recorded meetings of pianist Enrico Pieranunzi with bassist Marc Johnson and drummer Joey Baron are a cause for celebration, since they play together only for short tours and not on a regular basis. Ballads was taped shortly after a completed tour, focusing on low-key, lyrical arrangements. The selections include popular songs from both America and Europe, plus several originals. Pieranunzi draws from standards from the Great American Songbook and works by European songwriters, plus his own compositions and one by Baron. Highlights include the pianist's lush "The Heart of a Child" and the dramatic setting of Billy Strayhorn's "A Flower Is a Lovesome Thing." The influence of Bill Evans on the leader is obvious, though Pieranunzi is very much his own man at the piano. The subdued nature of these performances make them suitable for late-night listening and romance. - Ken Dryden at AMG |
