1969: Clarke - Boland Big Band En Concert avec Europe 1 2CD |

Artist - Kenny Clarke - Francy Boland Big Band Album - En Concert avec Europe 1 2CD Label - Europe1/RTE Year - 1969, release - 1992 Quality - MP3@320 kbps Size: 119+95,8 mb Total time - 55:14+44:26 AMG Rating В очередной раз хочу привлечь внимание настоящих любителей хорошего джаза к этому превосходному оркестру, в котором вы услышите лучших музыкантов Европы и Америки! One of the great jazz orchestras of the 1960s and '70s and one rarely heard, either live or on record, in the United States was the Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland Big Band. This overseas group (which was equally filled with Americans and Europeans) was a hard-swinging modern mainstream ensemble, analogous in ways to Rob McConnell's Boss Brass of the 1980s and '90s. This double-CD set (which was put out in 1992 but not made available in the U.S. until 1995) has a particularly exciting live concert performance by the big band. Overflowing with soloists (including trumpeters Benny Bailey, Art Farmer, and Idrees Sulieman, trombonist Ake Persson, and a sax section comprised of Derek Humble, Johnny Griffin, Sahib Shihab, Tony Coe, and Ronnie Scott), the band is quite powerful throughout the set with Griffin generally taking solo honors. Easily recommended. ~ Scott Yanow, AMG |

The we informed Jazzfans in the world are going to discover this original music. A music very often create outsider od the usuale professionale constraints. This project was able to be carried out thanks the association and complicity of several people conscious the importance of Bud Powell's genius. First Cecilia Barnes Powell, his daughter and heiress, to whom Francis Paudras gave as a legacy all the archives and personal recordings partly released here. Giacomo Battistella, passionate jazzfan, creator of Black Saint label and owner of Black Saint shop. Vittorio Castelli, another ardent jazzfan, musician journalist and partner in CD Team. Gigi de Leo, a well-informed jazz collector, documentalist, radio broadcast producer and also partner in CD Team. And lastly, Francis Paudras, who protected those precious archives over 30 years, a film maker and jazz producer. This work in an expression of their love and faithfulness to the probably most creative, the purest and the most underrated musician of our time. This is volume one of ten. ~ Paolo |

Artist: Ben Webster & Dexter Gordon Album: Baden 1972 Label: TCB Year: Nov 11, 1972 Release: Oct 6, 1998 Format, bitrate: mp3, 320kb/s Time: 53:28 Size: 118MB Для моих друзей! It seems logical that expatriate tenors Ben Webster and Dexter Gordon would meet up on a few occasions while both were living in Europe. Despite being in different generations, they work together quite well on this radio broadcast, which also includes pianist Kenny Drew, bassist Bo Stief and drummer Ed Thigpen. Released for the first time on a 1998 CD as part of TCB's Swiss Radio Days jazz series, the set has individual features for the tenors (Webster is excellent on "Sunday" and Gordon greatly uplifts "Didn't We") and jams on "Blues in F" and "Perdido" that are more complementary than competitive. It is a pleasure hearing Webster and Gordon play side by side. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |

Artist: Ben Webster & Buck Clayton Album: Ben & Buck Label: Storyville Year: Jun 16, 1967 Release: 1995 Format, bitrate: mp3, 320kb/s Time: 67:52 Size: 140MB to my friend mr.lex Live at Antwerp Jazz Club, Café Samson, Antwerp, Belgium, June 16, 1967 All the material in this exciting album is previously unissued. It is a rare opportunity to hear two swing era giants together in a relaxed club setting for a programme of Jazz standards and quality ballads. The recording also represents a meeting of two great jazz traditions; Ben first achieved fame as a star soloist with Duke Ellington Orchestra in the early 1940s and Buck was the featured trumpeter with Count Basie’s big band from 1936 to 1943. Both subsequently followed freelance careers and their musical paths crossed infrequently making this release a especially valuble musical document. |

2003:Rod Stewart - As Time Goes By...(The Great American Songbook vol.2) |

 |
Artists: Rod Stewart Album: As Time Goes By... (The Great American Songbook vol.2) Label: J-Records Year: 2003 Format, bitrate: MP3, 320 Kbps Time: 45:31 Size: 88,7 MB 'As Time Goes By'was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. Thanks to Clive Davis, Rod Stewart found a career revival in 2002 with It Had to Be You: The Great American Songbook, the album that refashioned the lovable rogue into a swanky swinger. Davis' gamble paid off -- he figured that the public, already aware of Stewart's status as a great singer, would believe that he could sing classic pop songs as well as he sang rock, soul, and folk, and he was right: the public did buy the record. But just because a record sells doesn't necessarily mean that it's all that good, and It Had to Be You suffered from one simple thing: Stewart's talents and skills are not well-suited for traditional pop. Still, the concept was a good one so the record sold and spawned a sequel, As Time Goes By: The Great American Songbook, Vol. 2. Released a year later, nearly to the day, As Time Goes By is basically the same album as It Had to Be You, relying on a similar song selection of well-worn warhorses and adhering to the same simple, straight-ahead cocktail-bar arrangements as its predecessor. There are some slight differences, most notably the presence of two duets: a version of "Bewitched, Bothered & Bewildered" with Cher, while Queen Latifah joins in on the title song (neither cut is very good, but Latifah is much better than Cher, who is less-suited for this material than Rod). Then, there's the slight upper hand of producer Richard Perry, who helms more tracks this time around than the other two producers, Clive Davis and Phil Ramone, who are also returning from It Had to Be You Overall, the album has a looser feel, but that doesn't mean more relaxed; it means sloppy -- to the point that the producers failed to correct a glaring computerized vocal correction error at 1:20 on the opening track, "Time After Time." Stewart's delivery is lazy and unfocused; his asides and offhand turns of phrase work wonders on rock, pop, and soul, where it's more about being in the moment than being in the song, but on finely crafted songs like these, precision is needed and Stewart's delivery makes it seem like he just doesn't have his heart in it. He never sounds bad; he merely sounds awkward on occasion, but the record is so casual that it doesn't make much of a difference. As Time Goes By just coasts by on its style and concept, which is about as satisfying and pleasant as it was the first time out, but the slight differences -- the duets, the sloppiness -- make the artifice more apparent this time around. It still works as background music, though, for those who buy into the concept. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide |

Artists: Coleman Hawkins, Roy Eldridge Album: In Concert With Roy Eldridge Label:Bandstand Year:1959, 1962, release: 1995 Format, bitrate: mp3 320 kbps Time:60:06 Size: 63Mb The material here dates from the 1959 Newport Jazz Festival and an English show some three years later. The opening Newport track, Benny Goodman's "Soft Winds," is kicked off by Ray Bryant's piano, with Eldridge coming in and then Hawkins, each showing off his differing but ultimately compatible approach to the material, which simmers and boils for 11 minutes. The fidelity is excellent on this and its neighboring track, a hot version of Hawkins' arrangement of "Sweet Sue," despite their live origins. Hawkins' arrangement of "Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho" is a long, sweet, mellow jam in which the Hawk spreads his wings gradually over the last six minutes, joined by Eldridge in a soaring finale. There's more noise on the British tracks--which include "Autumn Leaves," "If I Had You" and a killer extended jam to Hawkins' "Disorder At the Border"--although the sound is fairly close and intimate. The band on the Newport tracks includes Ray Bryant at the piano, Tommy Bryant on bass, and Oliver Jackson on drums, while the group on the British sides is Tommy Flanagan at the piano, Major Holley on bass, and Eddie Locke on drums. ~ Bruce Eder, All Music Guide |

Artist: Lonnie JohnsonAlbum: Another Night to CryFormat: FLAC (log+cue) & MP3 (320k/s) Size: 196 + 82 MB (scans) Label: Original Blues Classic (1992) Total time: 34:45 In the 1920s and early 1930s, Lonnie Johnson was simply the greatest blues guitarist there was. His work with Eddie Lang the guitarist for Paul Whiteman's band, as well as his recordings with great jazz bands like Ellington and Armstrong's units, mark him as a founder of Jazz guitar. Even into the thirties, musicians like Robert Johnson would model their work on Lonnie's playing and not make that mark.Lonnie had tough times in the depression and afterwards that would sometimes take him out of music. Though he had national R&B hits in the early and late 1940s, Johnson was found working in a store in Philly in the late 1950s and brought back to recording. The old fire he had 40 years before on the guitar may be missing, although on every tune he shows his mastery not just of blues techinique but of Jazz harmony, and the voice is older and lacks the fire of some of his early recordings or the jubilant jive of his work in the 1940s, but there is wisdom here of a man who has lived in these tunes done with just Lonnie's voice and a very acoustic sounding electric guitar. |

Не знаю, оценило ли бедное животное в клетке старания музыкантов, но мне материал понравился. Легкий приятный диксиленд на все случаи жизни! During 1937-1942, a small group from the Bob Crosby Orchestra, called Bob Crosby's Bob Cats, recorded 60 Dixieland-oriented selections. These generally exciting performances helped lead to the New Orleans jazz and Dixieland renaissance of the 1940s. This European import includes 21 of the hottest selections, and features such jazz greats as trumpeters Yank Lawson and Billy Butterfield, trombonist Warren Smith, clarinetists Matty Matlock and Irving Fazola, and tenor saxophonist Eddie Miller. There are occasional vocals by Marion Mann and Nappy Lamare and two by Crosby, but the emphasis is on the heated solos. Among the many highlights are "March of the Bob Cats" (which is really "Maryland, My Maryland"), "Who's Sorry Now," Eddie Miller's "Slow Mood," "Five Point Blues," a couple selections featuring Miller's tenor with a rhythm section, and "Do You Ever Think of Me." This CD gives listeners an excellent sampling of the Bobcats' legacy. ~ Scott Yanow, AMG |

2002: Rod Stewart - It Had to Be You... (The Great American Songbook) |

Artists: Rod Stewart Album: It Had To Be You... (The Great American Songbook) Label: Arista Year: 2002 Format, bitrate: MP3, 320 Kbps Time: 50:03 Size: 97,7 MB 'It Had To Be You' was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best It's the kind of concept that seems brilliant on paper: revive the career of one of the great vocalists of the rock era by having him sing the great American pop songs of the prerock era. It was done before with Linda Ronstadt, and it worked well, so why not Rod Stewart, whose career was in shambles in 2002 following the disastrous modern RB record Human? Clive Davis, the man behind Santana's comeback, masterminded the whole thing, and It Had to Be You was born. Again, the whole thing sounds good on paper, but in practice, it's a bit of a mixed bag. Certainly, following a throat operation, Stewart is singing better than he has in years, and he feels much more comfortable here than he did on Human, but the whole project has an artificial undercurrent that's hard to shake, especially since the song selection, the arrangements, and the performances play it so safe they're largely undistinguished. It's not necessarily bad, but it doesn't have much character outside of Rod's voice, and his soulful rasp isn't really suited for these songs. Nevertheless, this is exactly what it's billed as Rod sings the Great American Songbook and it's done with professionalism and ease, so it's a pleasant listen. But it won't replace Sinatra, of course, or even Ronstadt's similar work with Nelson Riddle. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide |

Artist: McCoy Tyner Album: Horizon (remaster bonus track) Label: Milestone Release: 1979 Style: Post-Bop Format mp3, bitrate: 320 kb/s vbr Time: 50:53 Size: 92,7 Mb AMG Rating: McCoy Tyner has fronted many mid-sized ensembles, but this one ranks with the very best he has led. As violinist John Blake jives and jousts with alto and soprano saxophonist Joe Ford and the incendiary tenor saxophonist George Adams, Tyner realizes a perfectly balanced, extroverted, compatible and utterly unique front line. It enables him to offer some of the most remarkable, memorable and powerful music of his career. It all starts with the magnificent opener "Horizon," which goes though a variety of dynamic rhythm changes, clarion calls, tinkling or rumbling piano set-ups prior to the band bursting loose, Afro-Cuban incursions, concise, inspired solos, and all powered by absolute perfect rhythm navigating from drummer Al Foster aside colorful percussive inserts by Guilherme Franco. It is one of the greatest single compositions of Tyner's career...sheer genius, period. "Just Feelin'" has been a piece that endures, played by Tyner in alternate trio and big-band settings as well. A singsong line courtesy of the vibrant tenor of Adams and Ford's plaintive, angular soprano radiates warmth for Blake's soaring violin to feed off of, as bright as any super nova. Blake's composition "Woman of Tomorrow, " with the violinist, both horn players switching to flute, Tyner and bass anchor Charles Fambrough is a textbook clinic exercise in beauty. "Motherland" chugs along in fierce modal revelry, powered by the rock-solid bass of Fambrough, with Adams getting to the heart of it in his typical fiery fashion and Franco urging him on playing the shekere, while "One for Honor" with just piano-bass-drums is a stone-cold hard bop wonder. The front cover has a silhouette of Tyner's face superimposed as lightning strikes fronting a raging thunderstorm, a great piece of art, as is this extraordinary recording, which cannot come more highly recommended. - Michael G. Artist: McCoy Tyner Album: Passion Dance (live) Label: Milestone Release: 1978 Style: Post-Bop Format mp3, bitrate: 320 kb/s vbr Time: 41:26 Size: 89,5 Mb (cover) AMG Rating: Recorded live in Tokyo, the great pianist McCoy Tyner performs three of his best originals ("Passion Dance," "Search For Peace" and "Song Of The New World") plus two John Coltrane songs ("Moment's Notice" and "The Promise"). He takes three selections unaccompanied while "Moment's Notice" and "Song Of The New World" are with a trio including bassist Ron Carter and drummer Tony Williams. This Lp (long overdue to be reissued on CD) has plenty of fiery and passionate music. All of Tyner's Milestone records of the 1970's are recommended and this is one of the better ones. - Scott Yanow at AMG |

Artist: Various Artists Album: The Best Jazz Album in the World Ever 2cd Label: Virgin Release: 2000 Style: Mainstream Jazz Format mp3, bitrate: 320 kb/s Time: 2:37:45 Size: 361 Mb Not the most modest title for an eclectic double CD album of jazz music covering a wide range of artists and styles of jazz music. This most certainly isn't the best jazz album ever, but it is a basic introduction to what jazz music is like, suitable for absolute newcomers, or occasional listeners who'd like a little jazz in their CD collection. The tracks are, for the most part, judiciously chosen - though there is a distinct bias in favour of music that will be well known to a large audience through use on adverts and television, rather than maybe representative work of the most important jazz musicians. In this respect I must quibble about a few glaring omissions, particularly in the work of early jazz masters. So there is nothing on here of Bix Beiderbecke or Jelly Roll Morton; and even later musicians of the Big Band era like Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller are omitted. Anyone coming to this collection should be aware that there is very little music from before the War. I wish there had been room on here for these and for something by two of my favourite artists, Charles Mingus and Coleman Hawkins. For these reasons I hesitate to give this double album an unreserved recommendation, but as I say, if you're new to jazz, this might be as good a place to start as any. By the end of this you'll have a good idea of whether jazz is for you or not and then you can investigate further. - Amazon.com |
