The Duke Ellington Small Bands - The Intimacy Of Blues |

Artist - Duke Ellington Album - The Intimacy Of Blues Label - OJC/Fantasy Years - 1967,1970 Release - 1989 Quality - MP3@320 kb/s Size - 94,9 mb Total time - 42:03 REPOST with new link Lots of rare music was uncovered when these recordings were first released. Duke Ellington did a remarkable number of private recordings with small groups taken from his orchestra and the selections included on this CD reissue are some of the best. A "Combo Suite" from 1967 introduces Billy Strayhorn's "Intimacy of the Blues" along with five forgotten but worthy originals while the music on the second half of the program (some of which features organist Wild Bill Davis) dates from 1970; "All Too Soon" showcases Ellington's new tenor Harold Ashby. Excellent music. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |

Santana - Welcome |

Artist: Santana Album: Welcome Label: Columbia Release: 1973 Format, bitrate: mp3, 256 kb/s Time: 50:24 Size: 93,8 Mb (covers) Bubu's Rating: WOODSTOCK - 40 YEARS ANNIVERSARY DAY TWO The mark that the recording of Caravanserai and Love Devotion Surrender had left on Carlos Santana was monumental. The issue of Welcome, the band's fifth album and its first with the new lineup, was a very ambitious affair and was regarded by traditional fans of Santana with even more strangeness than its two predecessors. However, issued as it was at the end of 1973, after Miles had won a Grammy for Bitches Brew and after Weather Report, Return to Forever, and Seventh House had begun to win audiences from the restless pool of rock fans, Santana began to attract the attention of critics as well as jazz fans seeking something outside of the soul-jazz and free jazz realms for sustenance . . . |

Artist: McCoy Tyner Album: The Greeting Label: Original Jazz Classics / Milestone Year: 1978, release: 2002 Format, bitrate: MP3@320 kbit/s Time: 42:42 Size: 98 MB AMG Rating: One of the better McCoy Tyner records on Milestone, this live set from San Francisco features the masterful pianist playing solo on "Naima" and leading a strong sextet (with George Adams on tenor, flute, and soprano; Joe Ford on alto and flute; bassist Charles Fambrough; drummer Woody "Sonship" Theus; and percussionist Guilherme Franco) on four of his originals. There are remakes (quite different from the originals) of "Fly with the Wind" and "The Greeting" and two newer pieces, including the atmospheric "Hand in Hand." An excellent example of McCoy Tyner's playing in the 1970s. ~ Review by Scott Yanow, AMG |

Artist - Oscar Peterson Album - Oscar Peterson & Roy Eldridge Recording Date - 1974 Label - Pablo/OJC Quality: MP3, 320 kb/s Size - 126 mb REPOST with new lin from Mr.Bubu Hans Ïèàíèñò, îðãàíèñò Îñêàð Ïèòåðñîí (Oscar Peterson) è òðóáà÷ Ðîé Ýëäðèäæ c àëüáîìîì "Oscar Peterson & Roy Eldridge". Part of his five sessions that featured duets with different trumpeters, pianist Oscar Peterson's matchup with trumpeter Roy Eldridge (reissued on CD) has its strong moments. Eldridge did not quite have the range of his earlier years, but his competitive streak had not mellowed with age. Peterson pushes Eldridge to his limit and the music is generally quite exciting. Highlights include "Little Jazz," "Sunday," and "Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea." AMG |

Îá îáîèõ ìóçûêàíòàõ äîñòóïíà èíôîðìàöèÿ íà ðóññêîì ÿçûêå. In the mid-'70s, Oscar Peterson recorded duet albums with veteran trumpeters Dizzy Gillespie, Roy Eldridge, Clark Terry, and Harry "Sweets" Edison. He paid the young Jon Faddis a huge compliment by also recording a set with him. Faddis, very much under Gillespie's influence but already displaying a wide range, clearly enjoyed the challenge, and on a set of standards and basic material, he often tears into the songs with reckless abandon. The Peterson-Faddis encounter is generally quite exciting and a high point in the early career of Jon Faddis. AMG |

Artist: Oscar Peterson Album: Historic Carnegie Hall Concerts (Birth Of A Legend) Label: Giant Steps UK Year: 1949 - 1953 Release: 2006 Format, bitrate: mp3, 320 kb/s Time: 1:17:26 Size: 184 Mb (full covers) AMG Rating: DEDICATED TO OSCAR PETERSON'S BIRTHDAY ANNIVERSARY on the 15th of AUGUSTThis bootleg is a very ambitious project intended to present the whole Woodstock 69 festival in it's integrity. Taken from every source available (official, bootleg & private audio and video Oscar Peterson gained a strong reputation in his native Canada by the mid-'40s, and he recorded regularly with his trio during 1945-1949. However, it was when he was presented as a surprise guest at the Jazz at the Philharmonic concert of September 18, 1949, by producer Norman Granz that he became famous in the jazz world. This very valuable CD has the three selections from that appearance ("Fine and Dandy," "I Only Have Eyes for You," and "Carnegie Blues") plus Peterson's Carnegie Hall features of 1950, 1952, and 1953 with JATP. One can only imagine what the pianist's fellow musicians must have thought when they heard him effortlessly ripping through "Fine and Dandy." The 1949 and 1950 appearances are duets with bassist Ray Brown, while guitarist Barney Kessel is on the five selections from 1952 and Herb Ellis is on the final five numbers. Peterson's style is a bit more boppish than it would become, but he is certainly quite recognizable. This is classic and historic music from one of the true all-time jazz greats. - Scott Yanow, AMG |

Artist: Willis "Gator" JacksonAlbum: 1950-54Label: Classics R&B Year: Jan 16, 1950-Apr 23, 1954 Release: Jun 21, 2005 Format, bitrate: mp3, 320kb/s Time: 1 hour Size: 95.2 Mb AMG Rating: Born in Miami, FL, in 1928, Willis "Gator" Jackson was first inspired by Charlie Parker and then by Illinois Jacquet to learn to play the saxophone. His cohorts at first were Blue Mitchell and Julian and Nat Adderley. Discovered by Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson in 1948, Jackson was thus introduced to Vinson's former employer, Cootie Williams. It was with the Cootie Williams Orchestra that Willis Jackson made an explosive two-part record called "Gator Tail" and earned himself the nickname "Gator." This exciting compilation traces the saxophonist's first recordings made under his own name from January 1950 through April 1954. Willis Jackson's sweaty, gutsy tenor sax technique places him somewhere between Illinois Jacquet and Big Jay McNeely. He was also capable of savoring ballads in the manner of Gene Ammons. The bands with him on the Apollo sessions of 1950 included drummer Panama Francis, pianist Bill Doggett, and trombonist "Booty" Wood, a veteran of the Lionel Hampton and Erskine Hawkins bands. The Atlantic and Deluxe sessions of 1951-1953 yielded a mixed bag of ballads, mood pieces, and jump tunes. The Four Gators provide oozy background vocals on "Street Scene" and assist with "Wine-O-Wine," an attempt by the Ertegun brothers to cop a bit of thunder from Sticks McGhee. "Here Is My Heart" has a rather theatrical wordless vocal by Gladys Bruce. A groovy unidentified organist adds luster to the 1952 recordings. Although there are a handful of fine ballad performances included here, most of these tunes are jazzy R&B dance instrumentals bordering on rock & roll. "Try a Little Tenderness" becomes a slightly upbeat bounce with toothy touches from the sax. "Shake Dance" has a lively shuffle rhythm that feels almost like a premonition of Jamaican ska, a perfectly logical maneuver for a man born and raised in Florida. Must have been something that came up out of the Gulf of Mexico and got him. ~ arwulf arwulf, All Music Guide |
