Grant Green - Iron City |

Artist: Grant Green Album: Iron City Label: Savoy Jazz Year:1967, release2003. Format, bitrate: mp3, 320 Time:39:31 Size: 94Mb Although his most famous records were made on Blue Note, Grant Green's IRON CITY, which was originally released on Cobblestone and later Muse Records, is ... Full Descriptionarguably the best of his mid-period output. Recorded in 1967, this is a trio session with Big John Patton showing some amazing skills on Hammond organ and Ben Dixon on drums. Together they form the consummate organ trio that was the basis of the soul-jazz movement. Green is masterful throughout, showing tremendous dexterity, expression, and fire. His dancing lines on exciting cuts like the nimble "Samba De Orpheus" and the ultra-funky "High Heeled Sneakers" are excellent examples of his influential single-line soling technique. Patton is exceptional as well; his powerful work on these and Nat Adderley's "Work Song" are prime examples of his own mastery of the organ. Of special note is the trio's moving rendition of the traditional "Motherless Child." In all, this is classic Grant Green, classic soul, and classic fun. |

Artist: Wes Montgomery Album: Road Song Label: A & M Year:1968 , release 1990 Format, bitrate:mp3; 320kbps Time: 28.58 Size: 62.7 MB ROAD SONG, originally issued as A&M SP 3012, CTI series, was recorded a month before Wes Montgomery died of a heart attack on June 15, 1968 at age 45 and relesed posthumously. The title song and "Serene," named in honor of his wife, were written by Wes. Other outstanding tracks are "Scarborough Fair" and "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?." Superb guitar playing, as always. Listening to this makes one wonder what more he would have accomplished had he not died so young. It's hard to name all the artists he's influenced. As the liner notes state: "This is the last one. Be glad we have it." |

Artist - Oscar Peterson Album - This Is Oscar Peterson 2CD Genre - swing, bop Label - RCA Victor Years - 1945-47, 1949 release - 2002 Quality - MP3@192kb/s + MP3@320 & covers Size: 97,8 + 90,8mb Total time: CD1 - 75:57, CD2 - 71:18 AMG: REPOST with new MP3@320 links and covers from Mr. pasaja. Oscar Peterson's style wasn't fully formed at the time the 78 rpm discs which make up this two-CD set were recorded early in his career, between 1945 and 1949. Sticking mostly to standards and blues, along with a few well-known jazz compositions such as "Flying Home" and "C Jam Blues," Peterson's sound runs the gamut from Tatum-influenced swing ("Sweet Lorraine" and "[Back Home Again] In Indiana") to a boogie-woogie-flavored "I Got Rhythm" and a driving original, "Oscar's Boogie Woogie." He's heard with several different trios, including his earliest regular working group with bassist Bert Brown and drummer Clarence Jones. This 2002 Bluebird compilation updates the earlier supposedly Complete Young Oscar Peterson issued in 1994 by RCA by adding 17 tracks that were originally the master takes issued commercially in the 1940s, but erroneously replaced by alternate versions on subsequent LP and CD reissues. This compilation is likely to be a thorough documentation of Oscar Peterson's recordings for the Canadian division of RCA, as all other music listed on the session logs seems to be lost. The wealth of rare music added to this collection of early Oscar Peterson should make this an essential purchase, even for fans who picked up the earlier edition. ~ Ken Dryden, All Music Guide Ïåðâûå çàïèñè ãåíèàëüíîãî ïèàíèñòà. |

Artist: Dave Grusin (His Piano, Trio and Quintet) Album: KaleidoscopeLabel:Sony Year:1964 Genre: Jazz Format, bitrate: MP3@320 kbit/s Time: 00:46:07 Size: 100 MB As a composer, pianist, arranger, producer, record label executive, and bandleader, Dave Grusin's imprint on popular music cannot be overestimated. This original 1964 Columbia album predates Grusin's noted soundtrack work, and it focuses on his terrific ensemble playing and composing. The twelve-bar blues number "Kaleidoscope," the gospel blues song "What's This," and Thelonious Monk's "Blue Monk" are among the highlights of this wonderfully diverse album. |

Artist: Fats Waller Album: Last Testament: His Final Recordings Label: Drive Archive Year: 1996 [Recording Date: 1943] Genre: Jazz, Jive, Classic Jazz, Stride Format, bitrate: MP3@256 kbps Time: 30:10 Size: 52.7 Mb This CD contains most of pianist/vocalist Fats Waller's final recordings, V-Discs cut for servicemen overseas. These solo performances are priceless for Waller is often hilarious (his reworking of "Two Sleepy People" is classic) yet still playing at his prime; "Hallelujah" has a particularly heated stride solo. Other highlights include "Ain't Misbehavin '," "You're Slightly Less than Wonderful," "This Is So Nice It Must Be Illegal" and "That's What the Birdie Sang to Me." In addition there is a song taken from the movie Stormy Weather ("That Ain't Right" which has Waller giving plenty of backtalk to Ada Brown's vocal) and a rare organ solo, "Bouncin' on a V-Disc." Less than three months later Fats Waller was dead; he definitely went out on top. ~ AMG Scott Yanow |

Artist: GEORGIE FAME Album: FAME AT LAST Label: COLUMBIA Year: , release 1965 Genre: JAZZ VOCAL Format, bitrate: 320 khps Time: 61.15 Size: 142 MB Following on from the blazing live set that was his debut, Georgie Fame's first studio album is one of those discs to which only one appellation can truly be applied -- it's dangerous. A blistering romp through Fame & His Blue Flames' live repertoire of the day, fast and loose and driving, it captures one of Britain's best-ever R&B troupes stepping so far beyond the customary precepts of the Beat Boom that, if you were to come to this record without knowing who it was, there's no way you'd ever guess a bunch of (predominantly) Londoners were responsible. To pull out any highlights is to indicate that there are any corresponding low-lights -- there aren't. But a "Green Onions" so sweet that you can taste it captures the group in full flame, while Willie Dixon's "I Love the Life I Live" has rarely sounded so supreme. Even the closing "I'm in the Mood for Love" -- not a song one normally associates with heads-down blues boogie -- is granted a cigarettes'n'alcohol ambience that could choke any passing puritan, and the whole disc adds up to one of the all-time great albums of its, or any other, R&B-blessed era. ~ Dave Thompson, All Music Guide |

![B.B. King - Thrill is Gone [Jazz Hour] (1983)](http://jazzbluesclub.com/uploads/posts/thumbs/1233927998_781850.jpg) Artist: B.B. King Album: Thrill is Gone [Jazz Hour] Label: Jazz Hour Year: 1983 Release: 2006 Genre: Blues Format, bitrate: mp3, 320kb/s Size: 133MB This is a 1983 recording of the B.B. King band playing live in Cannes, France. The King show, which has not changed all that much in recent decades, is comprised of hits such as "The Thrill Is Gone" (a decent live version, not turgid like some of the ones form the '90s), "Payin the Cost to Be the Boss," a thirteen-minute band workout called "Jam," a swinging hot reading of Memphis Slim's "Everyday I Have the Blues," and a deeper than blue read of "All over Again," by Carl Adams and King. The sound is very good to excellent, and fans of the live B.B. material will count this among the better latter-day sets he's issued. Thom Jurek, AMG |

Deep Purple - Burn (30th Anniversary Edition) (2004) |

Artist: Deep Purple Album: Burn (30th Anniversary Edition) Label: Purple Records, EMI Year: 1974 Released: Sep 28, 2004 Genre: Hard Rock Format, bitrate: mp3, 320kb/s Size: 165MB The departure of vocalist Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover seemed to rejuvenate Deep Purple, and 1974's Burn was a huge improvement over their previous effort, the lackluster Who Do We Think We Are. In an interesting twist, new recruits David Coverdale and ex-Trapeze bassist Glenn Hughes share lead vocals on virtually every track -- an enviable tag team, as both possessed exceptional pipes. The title track starts things off at full speed thanks to the phenomenal drumming of Ian Paice, and the intro to "Might Just Take Your Life" is one of organist Jon Lord's finest moments. Full of starts and stops, "Lay Down, Stay Down" features a fantastic solo from guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, who, as usual, serves as the band's primal force. "What's Going on Here" is about as good a single as Purple ever wrote; "You Fool No One" is compelling in its intensity; and the funky "Sail Away" is a sign of the band's future direction. "Mistreated," a fantastic slow blues, closes the album proper (if you ignore the boring instrumental "'A' 200," the record's only throwaway) and showcases Coverdale on his own for the first time. So impassioned is the singer's performance that the song would remain his concert trademark long into his post-Purple career with Whitesnake. [This 30th anniversary edition of the album includes five bonus tracks: an instrumental B-side plus remixes of "Burn," "Mistreated," "You Fool No One," and "Sail Away."] Ed Rivadavia, AMG |

Mississippi John Hurt - Avalon Blues (1963) |

 |
Artist: Mississippi John Hurt Album: Avalon Blues Year: rec. 1963/rel.February 14, 1992 Label:Rounder / Umgd Format: MP@20 Kb/s Size: 75mb AMG rating: This is the first in a multiple-volume series devoted to the Piedmont recordings Hurt made upon his rediscovery in the early '60s. They capture him with his playing and singing still intact, untouched by the world around him, a world that had changed so much since he initially recorded back in the '20s. Many of his best-known tunes are here -- "Candy Man Blues," "Salty Dog," "Spike Driver Blues," "Louis Collins," "Spanish Fandango," and the title track -- and although Hurt was to re-record them for other labels, these versions are as fine as any. There's really no one else in the blues with the gentle wistfulness of John Hurt, and this collection makes a wonderful addition to anyone's blues or folk music collection. by Cub Koda, AMG |

Artist: Jutta Hipp Album: At the Hickory House Volume 2 Label: Blue Note Quality: FLAC & MP3@320 Size: 129 MB & 88 MB Time: 39:52 Jutta Hipp at the Hickory House, Vol. 2 has the same infectious spirit and sense of fun as the first volume. Taken from the same date, this ten-track album features such standards as "Moonlight in Vermont," "After Hours," "If I Had You" and "My Heart Stood Still," all of which are given swinging, spirited interpretations by Hipp and her rhythm section of bassist Peter Ind and drummer Ed Thigpen. As with the first volume of At the Hickory House, Vol. 2 is another thoroughly enjoyable set of swinging soul-jazz and should appeal to fans of Horace Silver and the Three Sounds. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, AMGREPOST with new links |

 |
Artist: Jutta Hipp Album: At the Hickory House Volume 1 Label: Blue Note Quality: FLAC & MP3@320 Size: 133 MB & 91 MB Time: 42:48 At the Hickory House is a thoroughly appealing collection of lightly swinging small-combo jazz that draws equally from hard bop and soul-jazz. There's a soulful lilt to Jutta Hipp's playing that keeps it engaging and enjoyable. The rhythm section of Peter Ind (bass) and Ed Thigpen (drums) largely stay out of the way, letting Hipp dictate the tempo and mood of the pieces, and she has a knack for creating infectious, swinging interpretations of jazz and pop standards that are enjoyable and easy to listen to. Vol. 1 contains such staples as "Dear Old Stockholm," "Billie's Bounce," "Mad About the Boy," "Ain't Misbehavin'" and "These Foolish Things," all of which are performed with verve and style, making the record a wonderful little gem. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, AMGREPOST with new links |

Tony Scott & Horst Jankowski Trio - In Concert (1957) |

Artist: Tony Scott & Horst Jankowski Trio Album: In Concert Format: FLAC & mp3 (320k/s) Size: 187 & 98 MB (scans) Label: Point (1991) Total time: 43:40 This completely unknown recording (which is not even listed in discographies) from the Dutch Jazz Life label contains some brilliant music. Clarinetist Tony Scott and pianist Horst Jankowski match together very well, and the rhythm section (which is otherwise unidentified) is perfectly supportive of the lead voices. Recorded live in Ljubljana (former Yugoslavia), the music (three standards and four basic group originals) finds Scott in particularly inspired form. He romps through the uptempo pieces, and his tone is often at its coolest during the more thoughtful numbers. Although this 1990 CD is quite obscure and there are no significant liner notes, the music is quite rewarding and frequently exciting. ~ Scott Yanow, AMG |

Artist: Dizzy Gillespie Album: The Trumpet Summit Meets the Oscar Peterson Big Four Label: Pablo/OJC Year: 1980 Genre: jazz Format, bitrate: Mp3 320 kb/s Time: 38:07 Size: 88,00 Mb AMG Rating: To call this CD (a reissue of a Pablo date) an all-star session would be an understatement. Joining pianist Oscar Peterson, guitarist Joe Pass, bassist Ray Brown, and drummer Bobby Durham are three classic trumpeters: Dizzy Gillespie, Clark Terry, and Freddie Hubbard. They clearly inspire each other (Gillespie flew in from the East Coast specifically for this date) and the music ("Daahoud," "Just Friends," the new blues "Chicken Wings," and a torrid version of "The Champ") has plenty of exciting moments. Other performances from the same date can be heard on The Alternate Blues, another LP reissued on CD through the Original Jazz Classics imprint. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |

Artist: The Great Jazz Trio Album: Chapter II Label: Eastwind Year: , release 1980 Genre: Jazz Format, bitrate: MP3 - 320 kbp/s Time: 42.03 Size: 105 MB This edition of the Great Jazz Trio features Hank Jones with bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Al Foster in a release recorded in the U.S. for issue in Japan. Jones contributes three originals to the session: the twisting bop line of "Duplex," the subtle ballad "Sublime," and the strutting blues "Peedlum." He switches to electric piano for the bassist's moody "Light Listened" and Foster's ineffective samba "Just Before Dawn," which comes across very dated and muddy. A crisp flight through "Ornithology" and dreamy waltz through "Stella by Starlight" feature Jones back on the Steinway to show off his considerable chops. (by Ken Dryden - AllMusic) |
