Berry - Mademoiselle (2008) |

Artist: Berry Album: Mademoiselle Year: 2008 Format: mp3 Bitrate: vbr 192-256 Total time: 46:56 Size: 57 мб "Mademoiselle's debut EP shines to the heavens with restless, emotional songs of such high gloss it's hard to believe that the entire release, from artwork to final mix, is the product of just one dude, Sam Cabral... The stormy vocals are the focal point on these five tracks... Vocal expression can't be taught. You either have it or you don't. This guy has it, and manages to invoke the spirit of isolation amidst beauty, singing private pain out loud in the fearless style of Jeff Buckley, Thom Yorke or Coldplay's Chris Martin. Ghosts and gypsies haunt "Drink All Your Wine", a stand-out track anchored by a deadly bass line. "Worth Changing" is a cathartic rocker. But it's the radio-ready "Tornado" that will no doubt get Mademoiselle the most attention. Put simply, it rocks. The vocals seethe, guitars soar to a crescendo, and an electronic groove zings straight through your chest cavity like a sonic twister. Better grab hold of something, because Mademoiselle is just getting started." ~ Lexi Kahn, Lowbudgetsuperhero.com |

Rebecca Parris - You Don't Know Me (2007) |

Artist: Rebecca Parris Album: You Don't Know Me Label: Saying It With Jazz Year: 2007 Genre: Jazz, Jazz Vocal Format, bitrate: MP3@320 kbps Time: 73:45 Size: 160,4 Mb Rebecca Parris, like many other jazz artists, sought to make a studio recording that is fairly close to what one of her live engagements might sound like. Because she utilizes her regular rhythm section and sticks to gig-tested songs and familiar arrangements while adding some spice with a few all-star guest soloists, You Don't Know Me is truly a memorable recording. Parris is a slightly husky alto who knows the nuances of jazz singing, she doesn't go through the motions mouthing the lyrics but acts as if she has lived them; she also arranged the songs in collaboration with pianist Brad Hatfield. A perfect example is her almost-conversational interpretation of Duke Ellington's ballad "I Don't Know About You," where she lags behind the beat and makes it seem like she's conveying it over coffee. She's not particularly a fan of scat singing, since too many vocalists have no clue as to how to properly do it, but when Parris chooses to incorporate it into her brisk treatment of "All of You," backed by vibraphone virtuoso Gary Burton and her regular bassist Peter Kontrimas, it's clear that she knows what she's doing. Tenor sax great Houston Person is on hand for Parris' moving rendition of the late Etta Jones' signature song "Don't Go to Strangers," while another fine tenorist, Jerry Bergonzi, makes a guest appearance on her snappy setting of "East of the Sun (And West of the Moon)." This CD is a perfect example of what can happen when a talented jazz vocalist gets her way in the studio, something that doesn't happen often enough! ~ Ken Dryden, All Music Guide |

The Incredible Jimmy Smith - Monster (1965) |

Artist: Jimmy Smith Album: Monster Label: Verve Year: 1965 Styles: Soul-Jazz, Hard Bop Format, bitrate: MP3@320 kbit/s (LP rip) Time: 0.38:31 Size: 90 MB Due to the material, which includes the two-part "Goldfinger," and the themes from Bewitched, The Munsters and The Man with the Golden Arm, this is one of organist Jimmy Smith's lesser recordings. The LP does have some reasonably inventive arrangements for the accompanying big band by Oliver Nelson and some spirited organ playing, but overall is a rather forgettable and overproduced effort. ~ Review by Scott Yanow, AMG. Lightnin' Hopkins - Hootin' The Blues (1965) |

 |
 |
Artist: Lightnin' Hopkins Album: Hootin' The Blues Label: Ace Genre: Blues Year: 1965 Quality: MP3 @ 192kbps Size: 46mb (RS.com) with Cover Tracks: 8 The most important part of Lightnin' Hopkins' career was spent in juke joints in Houston, but during the early 1960s, he also became a star along the folk circuit, playing clubs that catered mostly to college students eager to hear authentic acoustic blues. Several of those shows were recorded over the years to capitalize, and while the albums don't have the same importance as Hopkins' classic blues sides of the 1940s and 1950s, they do show another side of the man, and one he seemed to take to very naturally. Hootin' The Blues is one of Hopkins' better folk club concerts, capturing him in an intense performance on acoustic guitar, rapping (in the sense of talking) about the blues and what it means as he introduces some powerful songs: "Blues Is a Feeling," "In the Evenin'," and "Meet Me in the Bottom," among others. The best moment, though, is his reinvention of Ray Charles' "What'd I Say" as an acoustic guitar number (trust me, it works), which displays the kind of fingering that must've made a young Eric Clapton want to sit down and cry. ~ Bruce Eder, All Music Guide |

Tommy Flanagan Tribute To Thelonious Monk - Thelonica |

Artist: Tommy Flanagan Album: Thelonica Label: Enja Year: 1982 Quality: Mp3 320 + 5% Recovery + Losless&MP3 (from Mr. hungaropitecus) Size: 114 Mb + 236 MB (Losless) & 105 MB (MP3) REPOST with new links from Mr. hungaropitecus Recorded just ten months after Thelonious Monk's death, pianist Tommy Flanagan's tribute features eight of Monk's compositions plus Flanagan's own "Thelonica." Assisted by bassist George Mraz and drummer Art Taylor, Flanagan does not sound at all like Monk but he recaptures his spirit and hints strongly now and then at his style on this fine (and often introspective) outing. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |

Artist - The Singers Unlimited Album - A Special Blend Label - MPS Year - 1975 Quality - MP3@320 kbps Size - 84,6 mb Total time: 37:25 Трудно не использовать превосходной степени, когда речь заходит о Singers Unlimited.
Sometimes interesting, sometimes gimmicky, Singers Unlimited were mostly fine on this release. Their harmonies and arrangements juggle an improvisational sensitivity and approach with light, pop-sounding voices. As a result, while they keep trying to stretch out, they don't always succeed. ~ Ron Wynn, All Music Guide |

John Hammond - Frogs and Snakes (1981) |

Artist: John Hammond Album: Frogs and Snakes Label: Rounder (1994) Format: FLAC & mp3 (320 k/s) Size: 264 & 90 MB (scans) Total time: 39:10 Although this is an older cd by John Hammond it still sounds better than the majority of the blues music being released today. He is the only white bluesman who can truly capture the essence of the blues. It is unfortunate that John Lee Hooker and J.H only team up for one song and it is not on this cd. The man is an underrated guitarist, vocalist and all around musician. If you love the blues pick up a John Hammond cd today. He has recored throughout his career every song Robert Johnson recorded and improved all of them. Clapton's tribute to R.J. is good (probaly his best since his very first solo album) but his versions don't stack up to John's. - by Dennis R. Goodwin, Amazon.com |

Artist: Tony Williams Album: Wilderness Year: 1996 Label: Ark 21 Format: Mp3 320 Kbps Time: 65:09 Size: 185 MB Tony William's last album and in many ways a synthesis of more new beginnings for him - jazz meets the orchestra - neo-fusion - funk - latin - swing - classical. If anything, I was only disappointed he didn't throw in some hard bop - but his own compositional leanings were more toward jazz-rock-fusion, and in some ways that has become mainstream - only because Mr Williams was one of the key innovators of these genre, and we are appreciating his work from a post-Williams, post-Zappa perspective, if you get my drift. Anyway, it's a fantastic album - with great synergy between all players - all giants of jazz!! Highly recommended, along with the Mosaic Select CD of TW's work! |

Artist – The George Barnes Octet Album - The Complete Standard Transcript Label - Soundies Years - 1946/1951, release - 2006 Quality - MP3@ 162 kbps Size – CD1: 98,0 mb; CD2: 38,6 mb Total time – 1:58:34 George Barnes may not be as well-remembered as Les Paul or Chet Atkins, but he was an influence on both and a master on par with the best jazz and country guitarists. The Complete Standard Transcriptions is a two-disc set that resurrects nearly 50 1946-1951 recordings of Barnes and his octet performing unique jazz-pop guitar instrumentals that bear little similarity to anyone else. The tight and inventive arrangements revolve around the interplay between Barnes' jazz/pop guitar leads and the octet's woodwinds, resulting in a delightfully different and surprising instrumental blend that sounds like the swingingest chamber music ever made. It's a minor miracle that such an extensive showcase of Barnes' talents exists and, as such, The Complete Standard Transcriptions is recommended not only for those who appreciate guitar wizardry and the Country All Stars scene of which Barnes was a part, but for all lovers of good music. ~ Greg Adams, AMG |

Artist - Milt Jackson Album - Ain't But A Few Of Us Left Label - OJC/Fantasy Year - 1981, release - 1990 Quality - MP3@320 kbps Size - 90,5 mb Total time - 39:54 REPOST with new link Despite the pessimistic title, all of the members of this particular quartet (vibraphonist Milt Jackson, pianist Oscar Peterson, bassist Ray Brown and drummer Grady Tate) were still active into the mid-'90s. The music is unsurprising but still quite enjoyable and virtuosic as Bags and Co. perform blues, standards and ballads with their usual swing and bop-based creativity. Highlights include the title cut, "Stuffy," "What Am I Here For" and a vibes-piano duo version of "A Time for Love." ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |

Artists: Art Farmer / Phil Woods Album: What Happens?... Label: Campi SJG 12001 Year: 1968 Format, bitrate: mp3@320 kb/s Time: ~ 43 min Size: 101,51 MB Brilliant work by both Farmer and Woods -- recording here in a European setting, produced by Clarke-Boland Band impresario Gigi Campi, with a French rhythm section that features Marital Solal, Henri Texier, and Daniel Humair. The tracks are long and openly grooving -- with a return to a harder sound from Farmer, who works great next to the edgey alto of Phil Woods, freed from some of the electric grooving of his other European albums on this set. Titles include "Blue Bossa", "Watch What Happens", "Blue Lights", and "The Day After". |

Artist: Eric Burdon & War Album: Love Is All Around Label: Avenue Year: 1976, release 1993 Quality: mp3@320 Kbps + flac, Size: 102 MB (+ covers) +294 MB w. scans Total time: 43:46 An odd collection of live tracks and what sound like cuts from the two Eric Burdon and War albums released at the turn of the '70s, 1976's LOVE IS ALL AROUND was probably a contractual obligation album. That said, it's a pretty terrific collection of long, loose War jams, which sound marvelous. Limber rhythms and dead-on horn and harmonica accents made this L.A. band one of the premier funk outfits of the '70s. Unfortunately, as was usually the case with Eric Burdon and War, their free-flowing funkiness and his more constricted, blues-based singing style don't always mesh as well as they might, as on the slightly awkward verses of the title track. But when War opens up and lets loose, it's hard to imagine a better band. - CDUniverse.com

Artist: Gene Ammons Album: Gene Ammons Story: Organ Combos Year: rec. Jun 17, 1960,Nov 28, 1961 Label: Prestige Genre: Soul-Jazz, Hard Bop Type: Compilation Time: 78:33 Format: MP3@320/kbs Size: 174.98 MB Недавний пост уважаемого Iskander36, посвящённый истории создания и развития «Хаммонда», заставил стряхнуть пыль с этого альбома. Gene Ammons recorded frequently for Prestige during the 1950s and early '60s and virtually all of the tenor's dates were quite rewarding. This two-LP set reissues Twistin' the Jug plus part of Angel Eyes and Velvet Soul. Ammons, a bop-based but very versatile soloist, sounds quite comfortable playing a variety of standards and lesser-known material in groups featuring Jack McDuff or Johnny "Hammond" Smith on organ and either trumpeter Joe Newman or Frank Wess on tenor and flute. This version of "Angel Eyes" became a surprise hit. by Scott Yanow |
