Artist: Molly Johnson Album: Lucky Style: Vocal Jazz Label: A440 Entertainment Year: 2008 Format: Mp3 192 kbps app. Size: 82 Mb Time: 59:40 min The first album of jazz standards from Canada’s great lady of song. 14 interpretations of jazz classics and contemporary songs, performed like only Molly can including standards like "Lush Life" and "I Loves You, Porgy", and all time hits like "Ode to Billie Joe" and many more. |

Artist: The Ray Brown Trio Album: Three Dimensional Label: Concord Records Year: 1991 Genre: jazz Format, bitrate: Mp3 224kbs vbr Time: 1:01;40 Size: 100 MB AMG Rating: *** Excellent trio date with Brown's formidable bass interaction with drummer Jeff Hamilton and pianist Gene Harris. Harris plays with his usual bluesy punch and delicate touch, while Hamilton fits like a glove with Brown. This is heady, solidly professional material. - by Ron Wynn at All music Guide |

Artist: Corey Harris Album: Between Midnight and Day Label: Alligator Year: , release 1995 Genre: Acoustic blues Format, bitrate: APE + MP3@320kbps Time: 49:25 Size: 220Mb (APE+cue+covers), 121Mb (MP3+covers)

Artist: Mary Stallings (with The Gene Harris Quartet) Album: I Waited For You Label: Concord Records Year: 1994 Genre: vocal jazz Format, bitrate: Mp3 192kbs Time: 1:00:42 Size: 84,4 MB AMG Rating: Mary Stallings joined Concord Jazz's roster with I Waited for You, an outstanding CD that posited the question, "Where has this fine singer been all this time?" Indeed, it was most regrettable that an artist of Stallings' caliber had done so little recording over the years when she should have been documented extensively. Carl Jefferson, the late founder of Concord, obviously felt that way, and he did right when he produced her Concord debut. Jefferson united Stallings with the quartet of pianist Gene Harris, whose earthy soul-jazz style complements Stallings' robust, Carmen McRae-influenced vocals beautifully on everything from the fast, exhilarating "It's Crazy" to the intimate ballad singing of "Serenade in Blue," "Dedicated to You" and Ivan Lins' "Love Dance." Harris described I Waited for You as Stallings' "coming-out party" — it's too bad the party didn't take place until 1994. - by Alex Henderson at All Music Guide |

Gene Harris & Philip Morris Superband - World Tour (1990) |

Artist: Gene Harris & Philip Morris Superband Album: World Tour (live) Label: Concord Records Year: 1990 Genre: jazz Format, bitrate: Mp3 192kbs Time: 1:01:14 Size: 84,3 MB When listening to this CD (recorded in Sydney, Australia), it is best to forget about the all-star personnel in Gene Harris' big band since, except for guitarist Kenny Burrell (who has three short solos), none of the sidemen are heard from individually more than twice. There are no torrid tenor battles or trumpet tradeoffs and "Battle Royal" gives six soloists only two choruses apiece, missing the opportunity to generate some fireworks. What this CD does contain is a variety of swinging charts, blues-based material and ballads in the Count Basie style that mostly showcase the soulful and distinctive piano of Gene Harris. There is a strong uniformity to the set (despite using contributions from seven different arrangers), all of whom have a rather conservative approach. In addition to Harris, trumpeter James Morrison has a nice spot on "A Child Is Born," baritonist Gary Smulyan roars a bit on "Lover," ltoist Jerry Dodgion imitates Johnny Hodges during "Warm Valley" and trumpeter Harry "Sweets" Edison is fine on his "Centerpiece." But in general this orchestra does not live up to the "Superband" title or the great potential of the personnel. ~ Scott Yanow at All Music Guide. |

Artist: Eva Cassidy Album: Somewhere Label: Blix Street Year: 2008 Genre: adult alternative Format, bitrate: Mp3 192vrb kbs Time: 42:56 Size: 105 MB by James Manheim Somewhere marks the eight posthumous recording by Eva Cassidy — none of her offerings were issued during her lifetime — and puts her in the company of Tupac Shakur for a post-life discography. This is a true odds and sods collection of material that includes two co-writes and the usual slew of covers. The late Cassidy's covers run the gamut from Dolly Parton's "Coat of Many Colors," and Don Covay's "Chain of Fools," to Don Hecht's "Walkin' After Midnight," and Fred Rose's "Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain." |

Chris Botti - Italia (2007) |

 |
Artist & Band: Chris Botti Title Of Album: Italia Year Of Release: September, 2007 Label: Sony BMG Studio/Live: Studio Genre, Style: jazz, smooth jazz, Classical Type, Quality: mp3, 320 kbps Total Time: 52:12 Total Size: mp3 - 119.62 MB AMG raiting: American trumpeter Chris Botti has kept his music fresh with small evolutions in his sound. Starting out in middle-of-the-road pop, he began to fit his smooth, often muted trumpet into classic jazz arrangements and to take on a greater variety of vocalists as collaborators. Now, with Italia, he takes a small step into crossover classical territory -- not a full-fledged one, and one partly presaged by his use of full orchestras on earlier releases and by a Mozart disc of a sort. With a dose of movie music, a rather phoned-in (or perhaps emailed in) vocal by Andrea Bocelli, an "Ave Maria" that soars high enough for anybody's wedding day, and a "Nessun dorma" that is nicely under control, he has tried something just slightly new. And he pulls it off. His tone is lovely, and his technique using mutes is impeccable. The arrangements of pop songs like "The Way You Look Tonight" rest easily under Botti's fingers, and for the most part he manages the trick of being relaxed without being cloying. The vocals are the weak point; the album features a necro-duet with Dean Martin on "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face," but Bocelli and Paula Cole sound scarcely more present on their vocal contributions -- whether or not they were physically present in the studio, Botti doesn't interact with them much. Aside from these tracks, however, those looking for trumpet music that goes down as easily as a glass of water will find it here. by James Manheim |

Gene Harris - Funky Gene's (1994) |

 |
Artist: Gene Harris Album: Funky Gene's Label: Concord Records Year: 1994 Genre: jazz Format, bitrate: Mp3 320kbs Time: 57:21 Size: 131 MB AMG Raiting: All of Gene Harris' recordings for the Concord label in the 1990s are easily recommended, and this one is no exception. The Harris quartet (with the fine guitarist Ron Eschete, bassist Luther Hughes, and drummer Paul Humphrey) digs into such material as "The Trouble With Hello Is Goodbye," "Everything Happens to Me," "Nice 'n' Easy," "Bye Bye Blues," and Chuck Mangione's "Children of Sanchez," turning everything into a blues-oriented groove. Harris was always in his prime on piano (mixing together Oscar Peterson and the boogie-woogie greats with his own brand of soul) and this quartet was a perfect setting for him. Another fine effort. ~ Scott Yanow at All Music Guide. |

Chris Botti - Night Sessions (2001) |
Music » Jazz » Fusion » Smooth & Lounge |
 |
 |
Artist: Chris Botti Album: Night Sessions Year Of Release: 2001 Label: Columbia Genre: Jazz Type: MP3 Quality: 320 Kbps Size: 120 MB AMG rating: At the precise moment when a corporate reshuffling and a reduced roster led to death knells in the press for Columbia Records' jazz division, Chris Botti was signing on after three albums at rival Verve, the jazz arm of Universal. Along with Bela Fleck, poached from Warner Bros., Botti seemed to represent the new lean-and-mean Columbia Jazz, an eclectic, contemporary artist with considerable crossover potential to go with his jazz legitimacy. While the dominant sound on Botti's Columbia debut is naturally his haunting, minor-key trumpet playing, highly reminiscent of the more introspective aspect of Miles Davis, his original music, co-written with one-name producer Kipper, is strongly reminiscent of the pop-jazz approach of his most recent employer, Sting, whose tour hiatus created the opportunity for the recording of the album. Sting even contributes a song, the samba-paced All Would Envy," complete with lyrics describing a wealthy May-December marriage, sung by Shawn Colvin. But elsewhere his spare, stylish, multi-cultural music provides a guiding principle. |

Gene Harris - Nexus (1976) |

 |
Artist: Gene Harris Album: Nexus Label: Blue Note Year: 1976 Genre: funky jazz Format, bitrate: Mp3 320kbs Time: 43:27 Size: 100 MB AMG Raiting: One of the greatest career moves Gene Harris ever did was to leave behind his 3 Sounds combo and go solo on Blue Note. By doing so, he got into a funkier bag, experimented with lots of modern keyboards, and achieved a tight spacey funk groove that drove some of the label's best output of the mid 70s. This tasty session from 1976 features production by soulster Jerry Peters, and a lively batch of funky fusion tracks with Harris on electric piano, moog, and other 70s heavyweight keys. Funky titles include "Koko & Lee Rose", "Funky Business", "Rushin Roulette", "HRD (Boogie)", "Gettin Down Country", and a mellow moody soul track called "Prayer 76", with a nice Roy Ayers feel to it. Artist: Gene Harris Album: The Gene Harris Trio Plus One (live) Label: Concord Records Year: 1985 Genre: Jazz Format, bitrate: Mp3 224kbs vbr Time: 48:03 Size: 67,02 MB AMG Rating: *** This superb album (reissued on CD) solidified pianist Gene Harris' return to the jazz major leagues. Teamed up with bassist Ray Brown, drummer Mickey Roker, and tenor saxophonist Stanley Turrentine, Harris stretches out on such songs as Ray Brown's blues "Gene's Lament," "Things Ain't What They Used to Be," "Yours Is My Heart Alone," and "Battle Hymn of the Republic." Harris and Turrentine work together so well on this soulful blues/bop date that one wishes they had teamed up much more often. - All Music Guide |

Gene Harris - Live at Maybeck (1992) |

 |
Artist: Gene Harris Album: Live at Maybeck (Maybeck Recital Hall Series vol. 23) Label: Concord Records Year: 1992 Genre: piano jazz Format, bitrate: Mp3 320kbs Time: 1:03:39 Size: 145 MB AMG Rating: The blues piano artistry of Gene Harris is well known to jazz fans, and this rare solo concert CD is worth acquiring. The leisurely "Lu's Blues" is beautifully understated, while "Elephant Blossom Blues" is an uptempo romp in the mold of Oscar Peterson, and "Blues for Rhonda" emphasizes a percussive, boogie woogie-like approach. His approach to standards is also fresh. "Angel Eyes" brings to mind a closing set in an after-hours club, while his jubilant rendition of "Erroll's Theme" shows he has energy to spare. Don't miss this excellent date. - by Ken Dryden at All Music Guide |

Artist: Gene Harris Album: Astral Signal Label: Blue Note Year: 1974 Genre: funky jazz Format, bitrate: Mp3 320 kbps Time: 40:24 Size: 94,7 MB AMG Rating: This is an uneven, strange and very blended Gene Harris recording, which is struggling to sound according to the 70s. Although the shabby funky-electronic-soul-disco-pop-esoteric-vocal sound, Gene's piano & moog skill and inspiration, succeedes not only to save the album but to make a strong work out of it. - Bubu |
