Artist: Max Raabe & Palast Orchester Album: Ich Hor` So Gern Musik Label: Monopol Records Year: 1991 Genre: Jazz, Historic Stylization, Cabaret Format, bitrate: MP3@320 kbps Time: 43:50 Size: 93.2 Mb

The Belgrade Dixieland Orchestra was founded in 2001 as we entered into a new millennium. Just when everybody thought that this wonderful type of jazz had forever died out in our country, some strong force kindled eight brave people to save from oblivion and keep this wonderful and winsome music from the turn of the last century alive for the public. From this faint, lonely and shimmering light of hope, The Belgrade Dixieland Orchestra quickly grew into an important cultural institution in Serbia’s capital, becoming the unique representative of this musical form in the country. As the only orchestra of its type in the country, it is directly responsible for the Dixieland's triumphant revival from the foundations built for decades by jazzmen from the Balkans. >>> |

Artist: Bobby Hackett Album: Plays The Music Of Bert Kaempfert Label: Epic Year: 1963 Quality: mp3, 320 kb/s REPOST! Bobby Hackett was born today, January 31, 1915! His mellow tone and melodic style offered a contrast to the brasher Dixieland-oriented trumpeters. Emphasizing his middle-register and lyricism, Hackett was a flexible soloist who actually sounded little like his main inspiration, Louis Armstrong. |

Cal Tjader - Sentimental Moods (1958) |

Artist: Cal Tjader Album: Sentimental Moods (orig. Latin for Lovers and San Francisco Moods) Format: FLAC & mp3 (320k/s) Size: 446 & 168 MB (scans) Label: Fantasy (1995) Total time: 72:52 Fantasy Records is to be commended for re-releasing so many of their classic Cal Tjader albums in the budget-priced two-for-one CD format, even if Sentimental Moods features one of their odder pairings. The first ten selections are culled from the dreamy mood music album Latin for Lovers (aka Latin for Lovers With Strings), and the final ten are from San Francisco Moods, a lean and mean West Coast jazz ode to his hometown. While these two sessions don't really go together, they do show you the breadth of what Tjader was recording for Fantasy at the time. While the Latin for Lovers selections aren't really Latin jazz (or even "Latin" or "jazz," for that matter), it is superior mood music with fine string arrangements written by Jack Weeks. If all lounge music was this good, the term couldn't be used as an insult. The soloists don't really stretch out at all, but Tjader, pianist Vince Guaraldi, and flutist Paul Horn each make their presence felt on regal, melodic passages. Willie Bobo and Mongo Santamaria are on the session, but unlike their sizzling one-track cameo on the next session's "Viva Cepeda," they are only around to keep strict time. So while the first half of the disc is upscale easy listening, those culled from San Francisco Moods show how underrated Tjader was at mainstream small-group jazz. Tjader starts out the session on piano, but on most tracks his vibraphone skills are given a real chance to shine. Tjader was always a giving group leader and guitarist Eddie Duran and the rest of the quartet are featured prominently. San Francisco Moods is an exhilarating session, one that veers from gritty, hard-swinging romps to uptown "chamber jazz" and back again without a hitch. Cal Tjader had such great success with Latin jazz that listeners and critics have tended to forget that he really was a major part of the cool West Coast jazz scene and that he recorded all kinds of music throughout his career. This CD reissue is a must-have for Cal Tjader fans and one that reminds people how far-reaching the vibraphonist's mainstream musical talent really was. ~ Nick Dedina, AMG |

Acoustic Ladyland - Last Chance Disco |

Artist & Band: Acoustic Ladyland Title Of Album: Last Chance Disco Year Of Release: 16 May 2005 Label: Babel Studio/Live: Studio Genre, Style: jazz Type, Quality: APE+CUE, lossless; mp3, CBR 320 kbps Total Time: 43:03 Total Size: APE - 267.41 MB; mp3 - 98.70 MB Originally released in 2005. Another revolutionary and heartening jazz-is-reborn manifesto from the F-IRE collective of young London bands—and by a mile the most extreme to date. At times closer to thrash metal and grindcore than jazz as it's usually defined, and acknowledging the presence of Pig Destroyer and Dizzee Rascal in the world around it, Acoustic Ladyland is either an electric jazz band that plays dirty rock 'n' roll, or a dirty rock 'n' roll band that plays electric jazz. Either way it'll rip the nose clean off your face, and either way it's a riot. Amazon.com |

Artist: Tony Bennett Album: MTV Unplugged Format: FLAC & mp3 (320k/s) Size: 416 & 147 MB (scans) Label: Columbia (2003) Total time: 63:01 Of course, Tony Bennett never was "plugged in," so the concept here is redundant, but what the hell. It's been a while since a Tony Bennett live album, and he's always terrific in concert. Certainly, he is here, singing 20 standards, including many of his hits and many other songs he's made his own. Elvis Costello and k.d. lang drop by, but they're feeding off Bennett's energy and star power, not the other way around. The album may be part of a successful marketing plan, but forget that and revel in the singing of a masterful song interpreter still, after 40 years, at the top of his game. - by William Ruhlmann, AMG |

Sonny Criss - Up, Up and Away |

 |
Artist: Sonny Criss Album: Up, Up and Away Label: Prestige Quality: FLAC & MP3@320 Size: 240 MB & 83 MB Time: 37:18 Altoist Sonny Criss' Prestige recordings of the late 1960s generally included a current pop tune or two along with some stronger jazz pieces. This 1998 CD reissue is of particular interest because the intense altoist is teamed with guitarist Tal Farlow (who had recently come out of retirement before slipping back into obscurity for a few more years), pianist Cedar Walton, bassist Bob Cranshaw and drummer Lenny McBrowne. "Up, Up and Away" (the Fifth Dimension hit) has more challenging chord changes than one would think and, although "Sunny" is lightweight, Criss really digs in and uplifts it. In addition, the leader overflows "Willow Weep for Me" with soul, plays a strong solo on Horace Tapscott's "This Is for Benny" and displays his blues roots on "Paris Blues." However the highpoint is a burning rendition of "Scrapple from the Apple" that finds Criss and Farlow engaged in torrid trade-offs. So overall this CD is more rewarding than it might appear at first glance. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide REPOST! |

Artist: Hidehiko Matsumoto Album: Sleepy Label: Three Blind Mice Quality: FLAC & MP3@320 Size: 276 MB & 98 MB Time: 43:32 Hidehiko "Sleepy" Matsumoto (1926-2000) was one of the best jazz sax players in Japan. His nickname was given by an American soldier when he was playing in a US military camp after the war. A true giant on tenor and flute, his contributions to the jazz industry of Japan were many and recognized by many awards and honors. This record, made in 1976 in a one-horn quartet setting, showcases Matsumoto's brilliant playing on both tenor saxophone and flute. He is a true master of both instruments and it is a great pleasure to hear him beautifully recorded by the people of Three Blind Mice. REPOST! |

Artists: Various Artists Album: De Cuba Son [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED] (2000) Year: Jun 20, 2000 Genre: Buena Vista Social Club, Latin jazz, vocal Label: EGREM Format, bitrate: MP3@256 kbs/s Time: 67,55 Size: 125 mb This is a compilation of tracks culled from various projects the Buena Vista Social Club members have done individually. The CD is almost as varied as the original BVSC release, with performances which add to our appreciation of the artists on that record. These recordings are no more than 12 years old, and the sonic quality is at time breathtaking. When I first saw this CD I automatically assumed this was just another way of cashing in on the Cuban music phenomenon; perhaps is still is, but there are quite a few gems in this compilation and they are every bit as good as what appeared on the original BVSC. |
Artist: Michael Philip Mossman Sextet Album: Mama soho Label: TCB Published: November 01, 1998 Quality: mp3@320 kbps - cover Size: 136 mb A fine hard bop trumpeter with a wide range, Michael Mossman has proven to be an asset to many swinging sessions. A flexible player, he toured Europe in 1978 with an orchestra led by Anthony Braxton and played on two tours with Roscoe Mitchell. But Mossman was in more logical surroundings when he was with Lionel Hampton (1984) and during the one month he played with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. He played with Machito and Gerry Mulligan in 1985 and then toured and recorded with Out of the Blue (OTB). Mossman played lead trumpet with Toshiko Akiyoshi's Jazz Orchestra, was in Horace Silver's group (1989-1991), and was a member of Gerry Mulligan's Rebirth of the Cool Band (1992). In addition, he toured with Dizzy Gillespie's United Nation Orchestra, the Philip Morris Superband, and Slide Hampton's Jazz Masters Orchestra. He has also played with the Latin jazz bands of Michel Camilo, Mario Bauza, and Eddie Palmieri. Michael Mossman co-led sessions for EGT and Red and had a 1995 release on Claves. |

Artist: Melissa Stott Album: The Picture Label: Feet First Year: 2006 Genre: Jazz, Jazz Vocals Format, bitrate: 320 VBR kbit/s Total Time: 68:21 min Size: 91,5 MB Melissa was hailed by Chris Parker (Vortex, London) as "a witty, accomplished songwriter with the ability to deliver her material with beguiling, informal intimacy". "The Picture", her new 2007 for FeetFirst Records, sees that promise fulfilled. All 13 songs on The Picture were penned by Melissa, proving that her talent for writing catchy tunes with interesting harmonies and witty, touching lyrics continues to blossom. From the up-tempo dismissal of a lover in "Romance Addio", to the haunting "The Picture", or the aching, melancholic "Wish It Wasn't True", each and every one of Stott's original songs casts a spell which is hard to forget. As a vocalist, her style is natural and understated, yet an almost conversational intimacy combines with subtle power. -->> |

Artist: Oliver Nelson Album: Taking Care of Business Label: OJC - Prestige / New Jazz Records Year: 1960, release: 1991 Format, bitrate: MP3@320 kbit/s Time: 0.43:00 Size: 98 MB AMG Rating: Oliver Nelson would gain his greatest fame later in his short life as an arranger/composer but this superior session puts the emphasis on his distinctive tenor and alto playing. In a slightly unusual group (with vibraphonist Lem Winchester, organist Johnny "Hammond" Smith, bassist George Tucker and drummer Roy Haynes), Nelson improvises a variety of well-constructed but spontaneous solos; his unaccompanied spots on "All the Way" and his hard-charging playing on the medium-tempo blues "Groove" are two of the many highpoints. Nelson remains a vastly underrated saxophonist and all six performances on this recommended CD reissue (four of them his originals) are excellent. ~ Review by Scott Yanow, AMG.Послушайте замечательного и хорошо известного всем саксофониста... |

Oregon – Music Of Another Present Era |
Music » Jazz » Fusion |
 |
 |
Artist: Oregon Album: Music Of Another Present Era Label: Vanguard Year: 1972 Format, bitrate: mp3, 320 kbps Size: 114 MB Time: 46:38 Music of Another Present Era remains Oregon's most enduring masterwork. Achieving a perfect balance of musical traditions from the East and West, ancient to future, they set the stage not only for a new transculturalism in jazz, but also created a lasting template for the fusion of musics from world traditions that would flower over a decade later. The four participants in Oregon, oboist and pianist Paul McCandless, guitarist and pianist Ralph Towner, upright bassist and pianist Glen Moore, and the late multi-instrumentalist Collin Walcott, operated on the premise that melodic ideas and expansive harmonies all contributed to a music that didn't bridge cultures, but erased them and eradicated them. This is a place where the astute dynamics of classical music meet the freedom of post-bop jazz in an inquiry of world rhythms and harmonics. Standout tracks include "North Star," with its celebration of rural music and rhythmic invention; the up-tempo "Sail," which offers a killer trio of Walcott's sprinting tablas, Towner's frenetic 12-string playing, and Moore's inquiring bass; the intensely improvisatory "Shard/Spring Is Really Coming"; and the lilting "The Swan." This is fusion music, to be sure, but it's the kind of fusion musicians have been trying unsuccessfully to emulate for decades. Music of Another Present Era is one of the most poetic and groundbreaking records to be released in the 1970s. ~ Thom Jurek, All Music Guide |
