Dodo Greene - My Hour Of Need (1962) |

 |
Artist: Dodo Greene Album: My Hour Of Need Label: Blue Note Year: 1976 Release Date: 1962 Format, bitrate: mp3, 320 Size: 107 MB This set (reissued on CD) was a very unusual release for Blue Note. Greene's mixture of R&B and soulful blues in a voice very reminiscent of late-period Dinah Washington is much more pop and blues-oriented than the music on any other Blue Note release from the period. What other Blue Note album has a full program of soul ballads clocking in between three to five minutes apiece? Although Dodo Greene (who had recorded one slightly earlier record for Time) was apparently signed to an exclusive contract, her only other Blue Note session (six of its nine numbers conclude this CD) had never been previously released. In reality, the main reason to acquire the relaxed set is for the warm tenor of Ike Quebec (who is perfect in this setting) and the occasional guitar of Grant Green. A true obscurity. ~ Scott Yanow, [b]AMG[/n] |

Don Byron Ivey-Divey (2004) |

Artist: Don Byron Album: Ivey-Divey Release:2004 Labe:Blue Note Genre:Post-Bop,Contemporary Jazz Format:Mp3@320/kbs + APE Clarinetist Don Byron once again mixes post-bop, swing, and funk into a unique concoction on Ivey-Divey. Just like Bug Music wasn't necessarily '30s swing and A Fine Line: Arias and Lieder wasn't exactly a classical album, Ivey-Divey isn't truly a straight-ahead, mainstream jazz album, although purists and avant-garde fans alike should find much common ground here. To these ends, Byron gets humorously rambunctious and a little "out" on such tracks as the swinging "I've Found a New Baby," the reverent and bluesy "Himm (For Our Lord and Kirk Franklin)," and the funky downtown jam "'Leopold, Leopold...'." Backing Byron here are the always adventurous talents of pianist Jason Moran, drummer Jack DeJohnette, trumpeter Ralph Alessi, and bassist Lonnie Plaxico. Matt Collar
Приятного прослушивания всем, кого заинтересовал этот неординарный музыкант! А у меня на очереди ещё один его альбом - Bug Music.

Jeri Southern - Jeri Southern Meets Johnny Smith |

Artist: Jeri Southern Album: Jeri Southern Meets Johnny Smith Label: Roulette Year: 1958 Format, bitrate: mp3, 192 kbps Size: 54.2 MB Jeri Southern began her career as a singing pianist before eventually choosing to focus exclusively on vocals. This release, recorded for the long defunct Forum label, pairs her with the masterful guitarist Johnny Smith, along with pianist Bob Panacost, bassist George Roumanis and drummer Mousie Alexander. Southern's deep, slightly smoky alto swings on up-tempo numbers, while she is also a gifted ballad interpreter. Smith's accompaniment is never less than superb, as are his occasional (but all too brief) solos. The songs that have best stood the test of time include her subtle treatment of "Music, Maestro, Please" (with Panacost doubling on celeste), along with the deliberate interpretations of "Until the Real Thing Comes Along" and "Two Sleepy People." Recommended. ~ Ken Dryden, AMG |

Shirley Scott and Clark Terry - Soul Duo (1966) |

Artists: Shirley Scott, Clark Terry Album: Soul Duo Label: Impulse! Release Date: 1966 Format: MP3@320 kbit/s Size: 86.0 MB Time: 37:52 AMG Rating: This is one of organist Shirley Scott's lesser-known Impulse LPs (not yet reissued on CD), a quartet outing with flugelhornist Clark Terry, drummer Mickey Roker and either George Duvivier or Bob Cranshaw on bass. Together they perform four Scott originals, a pair of C.T.'s compositions, the swinging "Until I Met You" and the standard "Heat Wave." Although not playing with the force that Stanley Turrentine exhibited when jamming with the organist, Clark Terry adds humor and a wistfulness to the date that easily compensates. REPOST! Eric Clapton - Sessions For Robert J 2004 |

Artist: Eric ClaptonAlbum: Sessions For Robert JLabel: Warner Bros. Records Year: , release 2004 Format, bitrate: 320 kbps Size: 65 m. Искренне удивился не обнаружив этот лучший, на мой взгляд, альбом посвященный отцу БЛЮЗА, It appears that Eric Clapton had more Robert Johnson in his blood than he thought -- or perhaps it was planned this way. This DVD/CD set (and really, it's not the other way around despite the packaging), showcases Clapton mining the Robert Johnson vein ever more deeply in no less than four different settings. The DVD features 19 acoustic and electric performances recorded in rehearsal spaces in Dallas and in England, as well as in the 508 Park Ave. in Dallas, a studio Johnson himself recorded in, in 1937. There is one more segment, a recorded solo acoustic in a hotel room in California. The band that joins Clapton in the rehearsal studios is comprised of guitar master Doyle Bramhall, organist Billy Preston, Steve Gadd on drums, pianist Chris Stainton and Nathan East on bass. The electric performances, particularly "Milkcow's Calf 's Blues," "Stop Breakin' Down Blues," and especially "I Wish I Had Possession Over Judgment Day," have some real life and stomp in them. Of the acoustic tracks, "Terraplane Blues" works best. The DVD also contains a selection of behind-the-scenes footage that will be of interest only to those fans who need to see everything. The CD contains 11 cuts culled from the DVD and the sequencing is in some ways preferable. ~ Thom Jurek, All Music Guide |

Artists: Hank Mobley, Al Cohn, John Coltrane & Zoot Sims Album: Tenor Conclave Year: 1956 Label: Prestige/OJC Time: 43:48 Quality: MP3 @320kbps Size: 95mb (RS.com) with covers AMG Rating: 4 stars REPOST with new link These four sides should not be hard to locate, as the primary participants in this November 30, 1956, session have all issued them within their individual catalogs. However, Tenor Conclave was first released as credited to the "leaderless" Prestige All-Stars — consisting of tenor saxophonists John Coltrane, Hank Mobley, Al Cohn, and Zoot Sims. Providing support are pianist Red Garland, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Art Taylor. The Mobley-penned title track commences the effort with the quartet of tenors showing off their stuff in high-flying style. It takes a couple of passes and somewhat of a trained ear to be able to link the players with their contributions, but as is often the case, the whole tends to be greater than the sum of the parts... Ike Quebec - Ballads |

 |
Artist - Ike Quebec Album - Ballads Label - Blue Note Quality - MP3@320 kbps Size - 119 mb Total time - 52:46 Прекрасная музыка для воскресного вечера! Tenor saxophonist Ike Quebec always had a big, warm sound, and he was particularly expert on ballads. This 1997 sampler CD surprisingly does not have any examples of his early work on Blue Note in the mid- to late 1940s, instead concentrating on selections from four of Quebec's seven late-period Blue Note albums, a few songs originally issued as 45s, and "Born to Be Blue," which is taken from an album by guitarist Grant Green. The eight ballads are all standards and put the focus very much on Quebec, making for a fine mood album even if acquiring the full sessions (all but "It Might As Well Be Spring" are currently available on CD) is preferable. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |

REPOST
Since Russian bandleader Oleg Lundstrem was around 70 when he recorded this CD, one might expect the music to be Russian versions of swing standards, but actually the music is quite modern, sort of an updated Thad Jones/Mel Lewis-type orchestra. No personnel listing is given although the liner notes refer to pianist Mikhail Okun, trumpeter Yuri Parfenov and tenorman Vyacheslav Preobrazhenski. The charts make liberal use of brass choirs and expertly set up the soloists, of which the tenor is the most talented. Overall this is a professional and rather enjoyable big-band outing from a Russian legend who led his first orchestra in 1934. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |
