Roy Eldridge & His Little Jazz, Vol. 1 |
Music » Jazz » Swing |
 |
 |
Artist - Roy EldridgeAlbum - Roy Eldridge & His Little Jazz, Vol. 1 Label - Vogue/BMG Genre - swing, bop Quality - MP3@320 kbps Size - 129 mb Total time - 60:56 It It is June 1950. Roy "Little Jazz" Eldridge is in Paris, making records with a small band of younger musicians. Easily adapting to rapidly evolving styles in music, the trumpeter eases himself into a steadily developing tide of modernity. The music forms a wonderful and comparatively elegant sequel to his rip-snorting big-band recordings of the 1940s. It is a pleasure to hear young tenor saxophonist Zoot Sims relaxing with Eldridge, and the pianist is 23-year-old Dick Hyman, already a strikingly facile and inventive performer. Pierre Michelot and Eddie Shaughnessy form the rest of the rhythm section in this tight little group. Continuing his personal tradition of great ballad interpretations, Eldridge delivers "Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams" with an open horn. "King David," "Undecided," and "The Man I Love" are each cooked at brisk velocities. Anita Love joins with Eldridge in energetic scat singing throughout Duke Ellington's "It Don't Mean a Thing." Yet the very funny, effortlessly hip, and decidedly cool "Ain't No Flies On Me" allows the two singers to relax and interact more deliciously than ever. The next session in the Eldridge chronology scales the band down to a quartet, with Gerald Wiggins, Pierre Michelot, and the great Kenny "Klook" Clarke. Eldridge ambles through Irving Berlin's "Easter Parade" -- which sounds a bit like "Put On Your Old Grey Bonnet" -- and renders up two more gorgeous ballads. "Goliath Bounce" is a smooth walk and "Wild Driver" a rolling boil, but the hottest number from this date, simply titled "Nuts," opens with a sort of Caribbean brushfire percussion maneuver by Clarke. As the tune unfolds its many intricate bop ideas, Clarke rides his cymbals most excitingly. ~ arwulf arwulf |

B.B.King - Six Silver Strings 1985 |

Artist - B.B. KingAlbum - Six Silver Strings Year - 1985 Label - MCA Quality - MP3@192 kbps Size - 46,17 mb Time - 33:51 For a recording fervently hyped as a special occasion -- B.B. King's 50th album and all that -- this one is surprisingly patchy in concept and erratic in execution. Five of the tracks are Miami sessions prosaically produced by longtime King cohort Dave Crawford, who also co-wrote most of them with Luther Dixon. The routine pop/rock backing tracks produce an often apathetic response from King; even Dixon's "Big Boss Man" is depressingly routine. Oddly enough, the only numbers that have any grit are the three co-produced by filmmaker John Landis (of the Blues Brothers notoriety) and Ira Newborn from the soundtrack to the former's film Into the Night. Indeed, Newborn's "My Lucille," the ultimate apotheosis to King's beloved guitar, is an underrated signature classic -- even Lucille herself gets a lot of space to sing out -- and "In the Midnight Hour" also strikes fire. Buy it for "My Lucille," if you don't mind the filler and the fact that the album offers appallingly short weight at just under 34 minutes. ~ Richard Ginell, All Music Guide |

Xavier Cugat - Cugat Cavalcade |

Artist - Xavier Cugat Album - Cugat CavalcadeLabel - Columbia Year - 1958 Quality - MP3@320 kbps (LP-rip) Size - 66,6 mb Total time - 31:40 Хавьер Кугат (Xavier Cugat) -одна из самых важных фигур в развитии Мамбо. (Busby Berkeley). The most significant thing about Cugat Cavalcade is the famous jacket photo of Xavier Cugat holding one of his chihuahuas. But it's also a treat to have a Columbia album recorded in stereo. Unfortunately, the album is really nothing more than another collection of old singles. The new stereo versions are not a significant departure from the originals, or at least not the previous mono re-recordings. It is nice to have "My Shawl" on LP, the tune most identified with Cugat during his Columbia years. ~ Tony Wilds, AMG |

Artist: Dhafer Youssef Album: MalakQuality: ape + mp3@320Kbps Size: 270 MB + 145 Mb (w. scans) Label: Enja Total time: 60:30 Genre: ethno jazz, world fusion Tunesian-born Dhafer Youssef started singing in the Islamic tradition at age 5. His music is rooted in the Sufi tradition and other streams of mystical sounds but has always been wide open to other musical cultures including jazz. With his deeply affecting vocal style, a variable approach on the oud (the Arabic lute) and complex Arab-colored compositions, Dhafer Youssef is among today's shooting stars in this crossover field. His 1999 release Malak was an immediate success that cast its spell even over the critics (Stereoplay: CD of the month, Fono Forum: 5 stars). Swiss Peter Rüedi wrote: "In all registers, especially the high ones, this man is incredible. His expressivity blows away all possible reservations... He is a composer of distinction and great breadth of expression ranging from clinking dissonances to real hit tunes - simple but not kitschy, lyrical, expressive, intense and thoughtful." - from Youssef's website |

Marilyn Monroe - 24 Great Songs |

Artist - Marilyn MonroeAlbum - 24 Great SongsLabel: Excellence De Luxe Release Date:Jan 1, 2004 Format Mp3 320 Kbps / Flac Size: 170 mb; 370 mb Marilyn Monroe's limited musical output gets recycled once again, but Anthology pads out the usual tunes with some tempting extras and packages it all nicely. The first disc uses most of the material from Stardust's earlier The Very Best of Marilyn Monroe and contains songs directly from her films, although the liner notes don't bother to point out what's from what. Recording dates, conductors, and orchestras are credited, however, showing more effort on the part of Stardust than most Monroe compilers. The performances are fun to hear; the singer coos her way through her signature "Diamond's Are a Girl's Best Friend," and a couple of duets with Jane Russell are sexy camp of the highest order. The sound quality varies from good to fair and only gets disruptive when tape folds and scratches occasionally turn up. Where Anthology stands apart is the second disc's collection of commercials and radio appearances. Full half-hour episodes of Monroe guesting on The Edgar Bergen Show and The Martin and Lewis Show are included. Monroe's famous sultry performance at John F. Kennedy's 1962 Madison Square Garden birthday party and a commercial where she sings the praises of "pretty undies" fill out the disc. There are more than 140 minutes of Monroe here plus a large booklet of photographs and essays. With its hard-shell case, Anthology is, at the very least, the Monroe compilation that makes the best-looking gift. ~ David Jeffries, All Music Guide |

Paul Winter - Jazz Meets Bossa Nova |

 |
Artist: Paul Winter Album: Jazz Meets BossaNova Label: Columbia CS 8725 Quality: FLAC & MP3@320 Size: 262 MB & 88 MB Time: 38:58 Winter first came to public prominence in 1961 as the winner of a collegiate jazz festival held at Notre Dame University; one of that event's judges, John Hammond, subsequently signed the group to a Columbia recording contract. In 1962, the band was sent on a State Department tour of Latin America. That venture planted the first seeds of change in Winter's concept. In 1967, he abandoned traditional jazz format in favor of a lineup that featured non-Western instruments. The Paul Winter Consort, as the band was renamed, became one of the earliest exponents of world music, combining elements from various African, Asian, and South American cultures with jazz. |

Artist: Klazz Brothers Album: Jazz Meets Cuba Original Release Date: June 26, 2006 Label: Sony Bmg Europe Format: mp3 320 kbps Size: 135 MB German musicians Tobias Forster (piano) and Kilian Forster (bass) are the Klazz Brothers. On a trip to Cuba, the brothers fell in love with Cuban music. After a casual meeting with members of Compay Segundo's band, the brothers felt the popular classical pieces they usually played could easily be adapted to the Cuban- and Afro-Cuban Jazz styles they had come to love. With a bunch of Cuban studio musicians they crowned Cuba Percussion, the brothers recorded Classic Meets Cuba, originally released in Germany in late 2002. Sony Classical reissued the album in America in early 2004. Mozart Meets Cuba followed two years later. |
