Basia - THE SWEETEST ILLUSION (1994) |
Music » Jazz » Vocal Jazz |
 |
 |
Artist: Basia TrzetzelewskaAlbum: The Sweetest IllusionLabel: Epic Release: 1994 Genre: Jazz vocal Format, bitrate: WMA 128 KBit/s Size: 47,7 MB Один из лучших альбомов певицы. Приятная, гармоничная музыка и прекрасный вокал. The sweet voiced Polish girl continues to set the standard by which other, less inventive adult contemporary vocalists should be measured. Her tender yet powerful feelings take listeners' hearts to places with fascinating, sometimes surreal imagery. Basia and partner/producer Danny White's real gift is rhythmic diversity, and the tandem take the artsy route on a big, brassy tour through Brazil and Latin America, employing jazzy touches that keep even the most staid tune hopping. The ballads are sweet as well. Nobody in this crowded genre outclassed or outperformed Basia, but as welcome as this comeback after four years was, the singer never followed up with another full-length studio project. ~ Jonathan Widran, All Music Guide |

Various Artists - Verve Remixed 2 (2003) |

Artist: Various ArtistsAlbum: Verve Remixed 2Label: VERVE Year: 2003 Genre: Jazz, Electronica Format, bitrate: mp3, 320kb/s Size: 85,5+87,1MB Verve Remixed, Vol. 2 can't be considered a complete success, though it certainly represents a valiant effort by compilers and remixers alike to reimagine 14 more classics from the Verve catalog. Even more so than on the first volume, this remix album benefits from the informed matchings of original performance with remixing artist, by producers Dahlia Ambach Caplin and Jason Olaine; if modern disco maestros Metro Area can't conjure a piece of genius music from the deep-groove Latinized funk of Hugh Masekela's "Mama," then it's mission impossible. Likewise, bits-and-pieces sampling maestro Matthew Herbert is the perfect choice to take on Oscar Brown, Jr., a fellow loungecat, though from a previous era, and Gilles Peterson himself could barely have imagined setting loose Dan the Automator on Willie Bobo's classic boogaloo tune "Fried Neckbones and Some Home Fries" or allowing Koop to recontextualize the sweet melancholia of Astrud Gilberto's "Here's That Rainy Day." Unfortunately, a dream often butts heads with reality, and these 21st century remixes not only don't upstage the originals, but in several cases, wilt even as solid dance tracks. Excellent, imaginative producers such as Mr. Scruff or Felix da Housecat or Miguel Migs simply don't function as well with this material forced on them, even if it's material they enjoy. Several of these tracks, however, do work in splendid fashion: Mondo Grosso's Shinichi Osawa does a great job by simply grabbing the hook (plus a bit of the solo) from Archie Shepp's "Blues for Brother George Jackson" and crafting a pumping house track out of it, while Gotan Project injects the perfect sense of gypsy swing into Sarah Vaughan's beguiling "Whatever Lola Wants." Many parallels exist between classic jazz and modern dance, and many artists from the one have influenced the other, but combining the two still demands a sense of perspective and humility that these producers don't possess. Sierra Maestra - Tibiri Tabara (1998) |
Music » Jazz » Latin |

 |
Artist: Sierra Maestra Album: Tibiri Tabara Label: Nonesuch Original Year: 1998 Genre: Latin Format/Bitrate: MP3/320 kbit/s Size: 85 mb One of Cuba's hippest musical exports, Sierra Maestra excels in the realm between rootsy son music and the more urbane brassiness of salsa. Tibiri Tabara presents the band's forest of percussion behind bright, catchy horn lines that leap brashly from the complex rhythms. In addition, the group's vocals converse similarly, taking the antiphonal lead and chorus structure to new places through touches of humor and a pure, obvious sense of musical thrill. For the dancers, the plucked bass and harmonic guitar envelope the interlocked percussion instruments as they persist in laying down strong, sashaying claves for the horns and voices to riff off of. This is indeed music for dancers, or at least for very physical listeners who don't mind relentless toe-tapping. There are rhythmic joys aplenty in Tibiri Tabara, including the muted counterpoint created from the bongos and guira, and the great punctuations laid down by the brass blasts. This is the past, present and future of Cuba's signature sound. -- Andrew Bartlett |

Charles Lloyd - The Water Is Wide (2000) |

 |
Artist: Charles Lloyd Album: The Water Is Wide Label: ECM Year: 2000 Quality: APE (368 MB) and MP3@320 Kbps (155 MB) + scans Total time: 66:52 Like 1999's Voice in the Night, The Water Is Wide features Charles Lloyd in the company of one of his dearest friends, drummer Billy Higgins, who would pass away less than a year after the album's release. Guitarist John Abercrombie also remains on board, but Lloyd extends the group's generational span by recruiting two younger players: pianist Brad Mehldau and bassist Larry Grenadier. The album begins with a straightforward, elegant reading of Hoagy Carmichael's "Georgia." Lloyd goes on to lead his ensemble through two lesser-known Ellington pieces, "Black Butterfly" and "Heaven"; Strayhorn's "Lotus Blossom"; two original ballads, "Figure In Blue" and "Lady Day"; and Cecil McBee's "Song of Her," a track from Lloyd's 1968 classic, Forest Flower. It's a glorious amalgam of sound: the leader's unique, glissando-laden phraseology, Mehldau's harmonic nuances, unerring rhythmic backbone from Grenadier and the majestic Higgins -- and only occasionally, pointed and eloquent guitarism from Abercrombie. The session ascends to an even higher level with the inclusion of two spirituals, "The Water Is Wide" and "There Is a Balm in Gilead." The latter features just Lloyd and Higgins, starkly setting the melody against a hypnotic drum chant. In addition, Lloyd's closing "Prayer," written for Higgins during a life-threatening episode back in 1996, features just the composer, Abercrombie, and guest bassist Darek Oles. (Oddly, Oles' credit is relegated to the fine print.) These tracks, most of all, resonate with personal meaning and profundity. -- by David R. Adler, AMG |

Artist - Kid OryAlbum - Creole Jazz Band - New Orleans Jazz LegendsLabel - OJS/ZYX Years: 1944-1945, release - 2006 Quality - MP3@256 kbps Size - 85,9 mb Total time - 47:44 Очень надеюсь, что этот замечательный альбом доставит удовольствие всем любителям традиционного джаза и, в первую очередь, нашей милой aelia! Trombonist Kid Ory led one of the finest and most consistently exciting New Orleans jazz bands of the 1944-60 period. This CD contains 16 selections from 1944-45 when, after a decade out of music, Ory was making what would be a very successful comeback. These studio sides feature veteran trumpeter Mutt Carey and either Omer Simeon or Darnell Howard on clarinet along with a fine rhythm section and Ory's trombone. Highlights include "Blues for Jimmie Noone," "Panama," "Do What Ory Said," "Maryland, My Maryland," "1919 Rag" and "Ory's Creole Trombone." This is fun and often hard-swinging music. ~ Scott Yanow |

Tina Brooks - True Blue (1960) |

Artist: Tina Brooks Album: True Blue Label: Blue Note Quality: FLAC & MP3@320 Size: 257 MB & 84 MB Time: 37:34 AMG Rating: Although a four-LP Mosaic box set purportedly includes every recording led by the obscure but talented tenor saxophonist Tina Brooks, this 1994 CD has previously unreleased alternate takes of "True Blue" and "Good Old Soul" that Mosaic overlooked. Brooks is teamed with the young trumpeter Freddie Hubbard (on one of his earliest sessions), pianist Duke Jordan, bassist Sam Jones, and drummer Art Taylor for a set dominated by Brooks' originals. None of the themes may be all that memorable ("Nothing Ever Changes My Love for You" comes the closest), but the hard bop solos are consistently excellent. -- Review by Scott Yanow, AMG. |

 |
Artist: Gal Costa Album: Gal Tropical Original Release Date: 1979 Label: Universal Int'l Format: mp3 320 kbps Size: 64 MB Gal Costa is an awarded singer with an extensive solo discography and international experience. A fundamental presence in the Tropicalia movement, she has been in Brazil's leading team of singers for decades. Since very young, she has been involved with music as a singer and violão player; when her mother's business broke she became a record shop attendant, where he spent long hours listening to music, especially João Gilberto. She became acquainted with Caetano Veloso in 1963, and friendly disputed him as boyfriend with her girlfriend Dedé, who would later be Caetano's wife. In 1964, Caetano was invited to organize a Brazilian popular music show at the opening of Salvador's Teatro Vila Velha. The show, called Nós, por Exemplo, brought Caetano, his sister Maria Bethânia, Gilberto Gil, and Costa (still under her name Maria da Graça). The show was a success and was re-enacted two weeks later, with the addition of Tom Zé (still presented as Antônio José). The success was even bigger, and the group (without Tom) soon presented another show, Nova Bossa Velha, Velha Bossa Nova. |
