Freddie King - Blues Guitar Hero Vol. 2: More Of the Influential Early Sessions (2002)
Artist: Freddie King
Album:Blues Guitar Hero: More Of
the Influential Early Sessions

Label: Ace
Year: 2002
Genre: Blues
Tracks: 24
Format: mp3, Bitrate: @ CBR 320
Size: 65 MB + 62 MB

Like many great stories, also this one starts with a refusal, as Chess didn’t deem Freddy worthy enough of a contract, but fortunately Syl Johnson introduced him to A&R man/pianist Sonny Thompson. This guy not only secured King a deal, but would also accompany him on most of the 70+ recordings he did for Federal between 1960 and 1966.
On these cuts, not a note is wasted and these short songs (all between 2:18 and 3:41) contain licks that are tastier than your grandma’s pecan pie.

Freddie King - Blues Guitar Hero: The Influential Early Sessions (1993)

Label: Ace / Pinnacle
Year: 1993

While King became somewhat of a hip name around the late 60’s and subsequently focused more on the new audience that adored him by merging blues with tough rock, these early recordings for Federal are probably the ideal starting point if you wanna get an idea and first taste of the man’s enormous legacy.

The Jimmy Giuffre 3

Label: Fresh Sound
Year: 1957-58
Format: ape (LP rip)
Time: 22:00
Size: 91Mb

This Fresh Sound CD compiles three separate broadcasts by the Jimmy Giuffre 3. The first three songs come from a 1957 appearance on the Stars of Jazz television show, featuring guitarist Jim Hall and bassist Ralph Pena. Giuffre plays baritone sax in his slippery "Gotta Dance," switching to tenor sax for a blistering take of "Four Brothers" and clarinet for his subtle yet spacious "Two Kind of Blues." Valve trombonist Bob Brookmeyer had taken Pena's place in the group by the time of the trio's return to the program the following year, which resulted in a great deal more freedom, as there was less emphasis on a pure timekeeping role for any one musician. The resulting interplay between the three men is consistently amazing. "Pony Express (Western Suite)" starts with a bit of a loping theme, though it quickly moves into a spacy setting that challenges the listener to predict its direction. ~ Ken Dryden, AMG

Artists: Hans Theessink & Terry Evans
Album - Visions (2008)
Label: Blue Groove
Release: Mar 17, 2008
Format: 320 kbps - mp3
Size: 118 Mb

Both bluesmen have worked together in the past and for years had a vision of combining forces for a stripped down duo recording. In Dec 2007 they got together in L.A. to do just that. Within 2 days they recorded a soulful album of original songs and soul-blues classics. The album has an intimate feel and obviously they were having a great time making music together.
Both Hans and Terry have a reputation for superb recordings and VISIONS will once again delight even the most discerning hi-fi fan with a fantastic sonic experience.

 Louis Smith - Smithville
Artist: Louis Smith
Album: Smithville
Label: Blue Note
Quality: FLAC & MP3@320
Size: 146 MB & 83 MB
Time: 39:03

Like his debut, Smithville is another set of thoroughly winning straight-ahead bop from the underappreciated trumpeter Louis Smith. Stylistically, there are no surprises here -- this is mainstream bop and hard bop, comprised of original and contemporary bop numbers, as well as standards ("There'll Never Be Another You," "Embraceable You") -- but since the music is performed so well, it doesn't matter. There is genuine passion to this music, not only from Smith, but also from pianist Sonny Clark, tenor saxophonist Charlie Rouse, bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Art Taylor. It's a first-rate hard bop set that deserves wider distribution than it has received. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

Del Staton - Live At My Place, Miami Beach, FL (1967)
Artist Del Staton
Album:Live At My Place, Miami Beach, FL
Label:ABC-Paramount
Year:1967
Quality:mp3 320kbps
Size: 64.34 MB

A native of West Virginia, left-handed Del Staton began his career at the age of eight when helearned to play a right-handed guitar. Enrolling in Cincinnati's Conservatory of Music, the young guitarist found a bass forced upon him because the guitar wasn't yet accepted as an instrument for serious study. After three years of schooling, Del took jobs with the bands of Ben Pollack and Chico Marx. Branching out and organizing a unit of his own, Del's ambitions were interrupted by World War II. While stationed in Czechoslovakia, Del met a concert guitarist and guitar maker (Anton Mattel} with whom he studied, and who introduced Del to the classical guitar. After the war, Del returned to the Cincinnati Conservatory, where the enlightened powers-that-be had not only accepted the guitar, but contracted Del to teach classical courses, a position he held for four years.During that time he organized a trio that became a favorite attraction in local supper clubs and performed as a staff group for radio station WKRC. A fan of the trio arranged for their appearance on Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts Show, which they won along with a three-week engagement. Their national exposure brought them numerous offers and the trio became well known in hotels and supper clubs, returning to the Godfrey show, and appearing with Ed Sullivan and Kate Smith on television. Discovering the inherent disadvantages of dependency upon other musicians, Del perfected his own original form of musical automation — his now-famed bass foot pedal attachment. His long run at Miami's My Place, where this live recording was made, turned the nightspot into one of the most
"in" spots in Miami. This is guitar at its most professional, enhanced by the unique electronic techniques of Del Staton — master of his trade.

Art Blakey's drums generate a lot of power on Miles Davis's 1953 sextet session with J. J. Johnson and Jimmy Heath. All but the ballad "I Waited For You" are heard in two takes. The enduring masterpieces of this set are "Tempus Fugit" and "C.T.A.".

This CD contains all of the music recorded by a particularly strong sextet in 1953, six selections and five alternate takes. With trumpeter Miles Davis, trombonist J.J. Johnson, tenor saxophonist Jimmy Heath, pianist Gil Coggins, bassist Percy Heath and drummer Art Blakey all in fine form, "Tempus Fugit" and "C.T.A." receive definitive treatment along with two Johnson compositions. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide

Sonny Clark Quintets   Artist: Sonny Clark
   Album: Quintets
   Label: Blue Note
   Quality: FLAC & MP3@320
   Size: 208 MB & 85 MB
   Time: 37:51

Of interest to fans of the superb hard bop pianist, this recording combines material from two separate dates. "Royal Flush" and "Lover" are from the January 1958 Cool Struttin' session and are available domestically on the CD release of the same name. The remaining tunes, "Minor Meeting," "Eastern Incident" and "Little Sonny," were never released during Clark's tragically short life -- they are special for fans of Sonny, as they include guitarist Kenny Burrell. Clark rarely worked with a guitarist, although he recorded some wonderful material with Grant Green, Tal Farlow, and Jimmy Raney, three masterful players. His playing here never clashes harmonically or rhythmically with the guitar, a challenging feat for any jazz pianist. These three original tunes are also welcome additions to the consistently excellent body of work which Sonny Clark composed.

1967's Aretha Arrives, a stunning release from this Detroit-raised, gospel-influenced soul goddess, is jam-packed with Aretha strutting her stuff in front of King Curtis and the Muscle Shoals house band. She "Aretha-fies" everything here -- from "Satisfaction" and "96 Tears" to the Frank Sinatra smash "That's Life" and "Ain't Nobody (Gonna Turn Me Around)," written by her sister, Carolyn Franklin -- to create a firestorm of funky sounds that's impossible to resist.

The Pitch Pine Project is unique in many ways. In 2002 Udo decided to start his own group. His wanted to get together with the very best musicians he could find and to try and create an exclusive sound. "I had only a couple of finished tunes but a very clear idea of how the band should sound." says Udo, "Then I approached the musicians." Players with different styles and characters, but with a mutual bond. It seems Udo's decision turned out just right. It was magic from the first note. "Everything fell into place," Udo explains, "the combination of people and this music couldn't be better. Our music is a mixed bag of styles and colors, always strongly melodic and with a warm acoustic character." With its many references to the music of Wayne Shorter and Weather Report, the music is heavily influenced by the seventies. Still, the sound of the Pitch Pine Project is unlike any other band because of the original compositions of Udo Pannekeet. In 2004 their first album "Quarantine" came out and got some very good reviews. They played at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2005 and in 2006 at the Midem in Cannes (France) at the Dutch North Sea Jazz Night. Following a very succesful gig with trumpet legend Randy Brecker in June 2006, on this second album Mr. Brecker is featured as one of the soloists.
