У вас есть прекрасная возможность послушать современный оркестр, исполняющий классический свинг. Руководит оркестром замечательный кларнетист и тенор-саксофонист Eddie Daniels, известный советским любителям джаза по гастролям Thad Jones - Mel Lewis Big Band.
Он часто выступает как солист со многими крупными коллективами, особенно часто с оркестром Gordon Goodwin.

Jimmy Giuffre 3 - The Easy Way (1959)
     Artist: Jimmy Giuffre 3
     Album: The Easy Way
     Year: 1959
     Label: Verve
     Format, bitrate: MP3@320 kbit/s
     Time: 40:17
     Size: 96 MB

Очень красивый альбом от одного из ключевых музыкантов West Coast jazz,
творчество которого очень мало представлено в Клубе.

"The three of us fell into a oneness which allowed the music to roll out naturally," Jimmy Giuffre wrote of this 1959 session with his frequent collaborator Jim Hall on guitar and the great Ray Brown on bass. Consisting mostly of original compositions, the music here always sounds, in Giuffre's words, "relaxed and settled."

Max Roach - Max
     Artist: Max Roach
     Album: MAX
     Year: 1958
     Label: Chessmates/Argo
     Format: MP3 @320 kbps
     Size: 78mb (RS.com)
     Total time: 32:39

Killer set of bop tracks recorded by Max and other New York bop heavy-hitters, like Hank Mobley and Kenny Dorham -- plus a guest appearance by Ramsey Lewis on piano, in one of his few non-Chicago, non-trio sides. The record's got that great kind of energy that Roach could hit when he really was kicking his group into gear -- and although the overall approach is mostly hardbop, there's plenty going on under the surface. Tracks inlcude "CM", "Four X", "Crackle Hut", and "Speculate". (Hard-to-find Japanese pressing from the 1970s. Further information is very difficult to find.)

Joe Williams & George Shearing - The Heart and Soul (1971)

     Album: The Heart and Soul
     Label: Koch
Original Release Date: March 1, 1971
     Format, bitrate: MP3@320 kbit/s
     Time: 0.31:20
     Size: 72 MB
AMG Rating: Joe Williams & George Shearing - The Heart and Soul (1971)

In the 70's, the marvelous pianist, George Shearing, started his own label, Sheba (a conflation of he and his wife's name) and the first release was this gem of a recording; George plays and Joe Williams sings. All of the tunes have the word, "heart" or "soul" in their title a fanciful concept and owing to the fact that many wonderful standards have these words in their titles the results are winning. Love Mr Williams voice in this recording, relaxed in the company of Shearing and the side musicians it is a treat to hear these two artists at work. A worthwhile purchase.

Herbie Hancock - Future Shock (1983)     Artist: Herbie Hancock
     Album: Future Shock
     Label: Columbia
     Year: 1983
     Styles: Jazz-Funk, Fusion, Electro
     Format, bitrate: MP3@320 kbit/s
     Size: 102 MB

The three electronic, hip-hop-influenced albums Herbie Hancock recorded during the 1980s--of which Future Shock was the first, followed by Sound System and Perfect Machine--have been the most maligned by fans of his enormously influential '60s-era jazz work. The reissue of all three albums, each newly remastered with bonus mixes and new liner notes, makes it clear Hancock was much more than simply a jazz pianist reaching for a pop crossover audience. To be sure, Hancock got his pop hit with Future Shock's "Rockit," and there's plenty on Future Shock that sounds dated, from the early 80's synthesizer tones to the almost consciously stiff-sounding hip-hop beats that permeate every track. But dig a little deeper, and it's clear this is supremely intelligent dance music, with a combination of producer-bassist Bill Laswell's Kraftwerk-influenced industrial production and Latin percussionist Daniel Ponce's Bata drum, Pete Cosey's screeching guitar--which echoes his work with Miles Davis's 1970s band--Sly Dunbar's rock-solid funk drumming, and Grand Mixer D.S.T.'s radical (for the time) turntable scratching. And, of course, there's "Rockit", the track that introduced a generation of young listeners to Hancock and break-dancing robots in music videos. All in all, a reissue well worth revisiting. -- Ezra Gale

Bennie Maupin - The Jewel In The Lotus (1974)     Artist: Bennie Maupin

     Label: ECM
     Year: 1974

     Format, bitrate: MP3@320 kbit/s
     Size: 92 MB
AMG Rating: Bennie Maupin - The Jewel In The Lotus (1974) Bennie Maupin - The Jewel In The Lotus (1974)

Bennie Maupin was one of the first musicians to record for ECM, playing on a Marion Brown record in August 1970, when the label was just a few months old. Born in Detroit in 1940, Maupin was encouraged in his early musical development by Yusef Lateef, John Coltrane and Eric Dolphy. Jack DeJohnette introduced him to Miles Davis, and Bennie's bass clarinet was to become one of the signature sounds of the epochal Bitches Brew. The early 70s, however, were spent mostly working with Herbie Hancock's ensembles and The Jewel In The Lotus is essentially a pooling of players from the Hancock circle, including Herbie himself in his only ECM appearance. The Jewel In The Lotus was Bennie Maupin's first leader record. The album was recorded in March 1974, and could be described as a sequence of pulsing tone-poems, full of glowing, compound sound-colors and subtle interactions - a jazz-and-Buddhism-inspired floating chamber music that was way ahead of its time. The recording shows Maupin very much concerned with the totality of the musical conception, with the form as a whole. He is an exceptional improviser, thinking compositionally and directing group music in the moment.
